Tested my newly acquired MacBook Air A1466 4GB/128GB and it does need a new camera since the wire is destroyed. It needs new hinges as well and there's a missing screw on one side, so I'll need to order some parts and possibly a battery since it's not optimal.

I also upgraded the SSD in my main desktop to the 1TB nVME and the 4TB nVME drive is close to completion, however, I'm going to connect my desktop to the projector to get that all set and disconnect both 1TB drives and call it a day.

Fighting with a stupid piece of dictation software and it's constant arguing with a piece of Radiology software that I just sort of got thrown into the middle of. Have a doctor who needs it done by EOD. Seriously....who the hell still uses IE11 in 2022. Fuck I have a DOS System with a newer browser on it. Total plugins/ActiveX nightmare....I'm really fucking pissed off!

Finally finished downloading a bunch of "modern" games that had been steeply discounted at GOG... so I could run them on gloriously non-modern Windows 2000. Serment - Contract with a Devil (RenPy game), Mhakna Gramura and Fairy Bell (RenPy VN), PARQUET (VN), and Hyperdimension Neptunia U (an OpenGL 3.3 game). I use innoextract instead of running the GOG installer these days, because the GOG installer takes twice as long, fails sometimes, and is frequently trying to install MSVC and .NET stuff which doesn't help much on Windows 2000. Perhaps as a result of that Neptunia U was unable to save until I manually created a "savedata" directory for the files to be placed into. After that everything is working, except that Neptunia U has wrong textures in some menus.

So got a i7-4770 M83 Tower which is gonna be a daily driver, but want to make it a "battle buddy" so n00bs can be pwned in house... well more likely the other way round, teh young uns seem to be getting plenty of practice in. But might also play with wifey in some more fantasy oriented stuff. So some bits around that weren't really the way to go for the daily, since high power high heat, but for a fun box that's not on all the time it's diff...

I wanna push a C2 Quad or a Xeon 5430 through the roof, mad cray cray speed, as pedestrian stock clocks will give too much advantage to the 4770. I've got an XFX 750i SLI, and Asus P5K3 Deluxe and P5N-D. GPU may be an R9 Fury or an R9 390.. gotta see if I've got a case that will mount the rad.

So...
XFX 750i SLI.. it's aight.. there were rumours that it doesn't like quads much... also has a damaged pin or two which I am not sure how significant they are.
P5K3 Deluxe.. Obvious choice right? Thing is... I kinda have duties for a quad with 3 PCI slots.. also all the DDR3 I've got is a bit slow.
P5N-D ... have a decentish set of RAM for it, but that could go to the XFX, this model holds a 532Mhz base clock record on HWBot, moon in sight!

Generally, I hear tell there's 200Mhz more of stability on intel than nForce, but that was earlier nForce and intel. I have seen folks struggling to get 400mhz base on the P5K3, but dunno if they're sharp cookies, or set their RAM too tight or what. XFX is meant to do 450 as promised by XFX. P5N-D as I said has a 532Mhz high, but not really expecting quiiite that high.

CPU to experiment with are 3 examples of Q6600 SLACR, one Q6700, one Xeon E5430 quad 45nm.. obv last would be best for SSE4 etc, but starts at 333/1333 and really needs the stops pulled to go high. Though at stock it is also lower watt, so one would hope better silicon, and easier to keep cool. Also avalable which might assist in probing high baseclock RAM and board settings are an E2160 which has less core and cache complications, and a Celeron 440, which has even less, both have been known to do better than 100% overclocks. (i.e. clock plus 100%, so 200% overall)

Coolers, I've got a Hyper 212, something I thought might be a scythe ninja, an older Corsair H75 (I think) closed loop liquid cooler, and that curious Ultra Fire that I got new in package this month. (Was meant to handle some opterons over 100W, but lack super good data for it)

Any specific ideas on combining what I've got, quirks of the boards etc?

Realized I haven't had a screensaver in years and miss the aesthetic. This will do nicely. I turned off the sound as it is rather glitchy.

I gotta find a bouncing clock that isn't Microsoft... because you can do it with the built in bouncing text, make it all nice, custom font and color... then every time you apply an update it goes back to "Windows 10" or whatever the default is. Grrrrr.

Doing the nightmarish hell of budgeting in modern spreadsheets. Seriously....enough staring at that white background of a Spreadsheet for hours upon hours kills my eyes - I was about to grab the Tandy 1000A next to me and use bloody Lotus 1-2-3, at least that does not hurt my eyes in CGA 9dpi 80x25 column text on a Multisync Monitor like it does blaring in my face in full HD.

My brother's kids spilt a drink over their big HP desktop replacement laptop (HP ENVY 17" i7 GTX something 16GB from about 2014/2015) and destroyed it. Stripped it down to retrieve the M.2 SSD and recover the data from it. I'll keep the SSD and the 2x8GB DDR3 SODIMMS and bin the rest - everything's integrated onto one motherboard.

Got a Gigabyte WIFI 6E PCI card and want to take advantage of my WIFI 6E mesh system.
Damn it found out Microsoft decided to leave 6G channel support to Windows 11 only.

For any of you who dabble in electronic music I ran across this fairly new open source VST synth. Looks rather nice, but unfortunately Mac only at the moment.

Some "modern" questions on configs:

- PSU fully modular, only two "double PCI-E 8pin connectors" cables and two "single CPU 8pin connector" cables (with the P1 connector on the PSU side). Beside the obvious different name are their pinout the same (PCI-E cables and CPU-mainboard cables that goes to the PSU) on both sides?

- all in one liquid cooler system with pump/argb two cables, a 3-pin classic fan connector and of course the ARGB one. The mainboard has no pump connector only cpu and sys fan. All the system/radiator fans are connected to a hub which has PWM signal connector connected to the SYS_FAN and drive them all with hub/controller but the pump one which instead (I ask and suppose) should be connected directly to the CPU_FAN and the bios set to DC mode right?

No.

Edit.
Or if you ask if each cable has the same pinout on both sides, if the physical profile is the same, it likely is, but you can beep it out with a multimeter (or any kind of continuity tester). If the profile is different, you can't plug in then the wrong way anyway.

Thank you, I supposed that at first but curious. For the PCIE side the plastic shape connector pin is of course different, wondering about the schematic of both cables/sides. For the argb logics I've read so much in few time that I didn't in months. I still prefer the old computer days when these things didn't even exist. 😉

The modern PSU with its multiple outputs "CPU/PCIE" when connecting the "PCI-E" 8pin double connector cable are ok for all the vga models with 8pin? Like a rtx card with a single 8pin female connector?

Got MacOS Monterey to install on my newly acquired Lenovo ThinkPad T480. The secondary battery is long gone and the extended one works on this, however, MacOS reports only 1 battery and I've yet to see if there's a way to get both batteries working at the same time.

I also swapped the board and touch ID in the MB Air 2020 Intel and once I receive the display, that'll get installed and it'll be good as new-ish.

One more thing: I got the newly acquired Nintendo Switch set up and I got the 128GB (128GiB in OS language) installed for installing some games and all I need are some cool Switch titles and add my cousin to my friend's list and start playing games online (Smash Bros Ultimate, MK8, etc). That and I'm going to get some controllers for it as well so my family and I can play some games on either the 55" Hisense 4K or my projector.

I got the MacBook Air 2020 Intel fixed by replacing the display assembly with a working one. I had a couple of hiccups, such as the display being on LSD until it logged in all the way and the USB-C ports weren't working 100% of the time until I cleaned the USB-C assembly and removed gunk/corrosion off of the pins.

I tried to troubleshoot my graphics card, GTX 660 1.5gb.
12V 6 pin shorts.
Card still displays something like "power off and plug 12V and power on again" message.

Card stopped working prompting shortcircuit protection, but turns on when 6 pin plug is removed.
Probably VRM died and I can't pinpoint which.
No pci express 12v short, just 6pin.

Today I packed to move house. This is my first time selling + buying, we were first time buyers last time.

This means my Steamdeck suddenly made 100% sense and after a stressful day I could unwind with some Mafia 2 and Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

I have a vacancy for a main Windows 98 PC

Got my Raspberry Pi 2 setup as an Apple Time Capsule for all of my MacBooks by using the old 480GB SSD that was in my desktop, a 2.5" drive enclosure, Raspberry OS, a wireless AGBN dongle, and a keyboard (temporary to run commands). I formatted the 480GB drive as a JHFS+ partition and got all of the files, commands, and software set and tested two MacBooks: 2015 MB Air and 2020 MB Air Intel (so I can install the Ventura beta on it).

Speaking of, I got the Ventura beta installed on my 2020 MB Air Intel (needs more RAM and storage since 8GB of RAM isn't sufficient and neither is 256GB storage) successfully.

I think 480GB of storage for the Time Capsule is sufficient enough anyway for now and Ventura 13's System Settings looks like iOS.

After hearing about EVGA and NVidia going their separate ways today I decided to poke around EVGA's website and didn't realize you could update the firmware on their video cards via Precision X1. Doh! Went ahead and updated my 2080 firmware.
