This Audiodrive ES-688, with many IDE connectors..

FYI, there might be one IDE connector, the others are mitsumi/Sony/Panasonic CDROM connectors.

The left end of the photo is rather fuzzy, but one can still read those captions on PCB from top to bottom: Mitsumi, Sony, Panasonic, IDE.

I recently bought an Apple IIe via ebay. I'd hesitated buying online due to the prospect of shipping damage. In this case, the seller was only two hours away, so I offered to pick up instead of having it shipped. Frustratingly they responded that they don't do pick ups and that they had shipped out claiming it was "well packaged".

When the computer arrived my fears were confirmed: the outer case had been cracked and broken during shipment.

The monitor itself is still enroute and I have to wait to see if that survived or if it also suffered damage.

Very frustrating that a two hour drive would have prevented damage to this machine if the seller had only been willing to let me pick this thing up. 🙁

Ah that's real sad 🙁 What will you do? Get some sort of refund?

Seeing those pics is really frustrating.

I bet they insisted it'll be well packed too.

Argh.

I'm going to wait and see what happens with the monitor (if and when it shows up), then we'll see.

If the monitor arrives intact at least I may have reason to keep things, albeit I will push for either a partial refund or see if they can supply a replacement case.

But if the monitor is also damaged, then I'll push for a full refund.

They did. When I initially told them I wanted to do a pickup, they said they've sent other machines much further with no damage and not to worry.

And in fairness, the packing wasn't terrible. If it had been a normal PC case, it probably would have been fine.

But for something this old and with brittle plastic it really needed to be properly double boxed.

The other day, I bought a DataExpert EXP8551 ver 1.2 and a replacement Dallas RTC since the original might be flat.

Fair use/fair dealing exception

The board was sold as-is for parts/repairs and I got the board and replacement Dallas RTC today and I got some components out to give this a good testing. I just need to take the 386 board out of the PCS case and place the Pentium board in the case.

I thought about buying that board just for the white ISA slots.

Scored this nice Medion/MSI Geforce 4 Ti4200 AGP8x. Needs some cleaning and a bit of bicycle oil on the fan's bearings, but I have high hopes in getting it to work fine. 40ns memory, btw.

Any tips for the GF4 Ti4200? Anything I should be aware of in particular?

Don't look up pencil mods, or you'll waste a year trying to get a 20,000 score on 3DMark2001SE... be happy with 19,450.... (Normal at stock clocks is more like 8-10k btw depending on CPU) No particular gotchas though, 4200 is a stout card, caps might be getting tired by now, but that goes for everything 10+ years old.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I was sane enough to not try any pencil mods on Athlon XPs, so I'm good on that regard 😀

Found and bought this Voodoo4 4500 listed as a Voodoo3 2000.

Nice found for sure.. Let me guess u did pay very good price of like 100-130$ since was listed as Voodoo III 2K.. Voodoo IV 4.5K usually sells for like 300-400$ i think..

Two notches on AGP connector are dead giveaway. Was this the only Voodoo with AGP 4x compatibility? (at least physical)

Nah there was Voodoo 5 5000 that had also universal AGP slot.. There are some indications of some rare V5 5500 with also universal AGP slot... But is whatever since many boards of that time period 1999-2000-2001 did have on them Universal AGP slot so in the end does not matter at all...

That seller was prob a female selling her husband`s card and stuff rofl (happened to me couple of times one time i got MSI socket 462 Delta 2 Platinum for dirt cheap with original box, the husband was on work trip, and his wife decided to sell his "garbage" as she said... Other time similar crap the husband was away for some days cuz of work, and his GF did sell his collection, got cheap Voodoo 1 and Voodoo 2 cards from it and 1 slot 1 mobo ABIT BH6.. Yeah jesus these wifes and GFs they are are UNhealthy for collectors for sure..), or was someone that did not have much clue about stuff.. Two-3 times (since i have AD on local sites, that i am looking for retro parts all the good stuff u know) ppl message me, most of the time garbage and BS or low end stuff such as Riva TNT M64, ATi garbage Rage, Radeon 9200, MX440, GF FX5200 ect.. , but some times there are good stuff and great deals.. For example one time some guy sends me a picture of a part with price tag 5 euros, i click on the picture it was Voodoo III 2K AGP, i said ofc accept the deal, but asked him if he have more stuff (the usual procedure ofc) , he said maybe to give him 2-3 days to look in the garage, basement.. After 2 days he did send me pictures of another 3Dfx, but Banshee, some others not interesting stuff, but at the time he was aware for how much these cards ell in ebay, and wanted to cancel even the Voodoo 3, i got mad, but said to him that he did give me price offer i accepted, but not for the Banshee, so he send me only the Voodoo 3 for the 5 euros, and kept the Banshee for himself... Or other guy that saw me selling Voodoo 3 3000 for 80 euro some time ago (back when i had prices on my ADs) and did message me with his card and picture, with price tag of only 40 euro, i said that my primary idea was trade for other exotic parts, and that no one did buy it for 80 euro, + his card may not work, so i said i cant pay that much for potential scrap. Then he did offer me 10 euros, i said ok. ofc i know the failure rate of old parts is normally in my favor, most of them just work (aside from shitty ASUS), so odds are i tell the seller that the part may be dead, and they lower price alot..
