I've been using Nord VPN for the past few years, but I think that there might be a better VPN. For those who use a pay VPN, what do you recommend?

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?

Private Internet Access is the one I use. No complaints, it seems to work well.

How is the software interface? The Nord VPN software seems a bit bloated to me - I have a pretty fast computer, but the app takes some time to load.

It's well rated here, though it has the same rating as Nord; the highest rating is for Proton. https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/private-internet-access-vpn

The interface is straight-forward, uncluttered and easy to use. Loads quickly and then just sits in the background.

Upgrading the software has also been a painless experience.

I use Hotspot Shield, which is included in my Dashlane subscription. It's quick to load and seems fine - the reviews were good. Up until recently though I was using Nord too - agree that the app was too slow and the constant updates it interrupted me with were annoying.

Proton VPN is highly rated so I decided to give it a try; I signed up for one month as a test run, and I'm glad that I didn't make a longer commitment. There is a somewhat controversial political site I like to visit - the sort of place that you might need a VPN to look at depending on circumstances. I thought maybe they were down again, only to discover that Proton VPN blocks it! It's supposed to be a VPN, not a nanny. I'll not be signing up for any further service from Proton VPN.
