Well, Windows98/ME does not support Core2Duos ... at least not both cores 😀. 2000/XP would be better in that regard.

Really beside the point if the single core of a C2D performs faster than any other single core option out there.

'Finished' my 486 Build. I've used quotes there as we all know they are never truly finished, there is always something more to tinker with 😁

Some of the grey paint has worn off the power button, if I can get an exact match I may end up touching this up.

Soyo SY-4SAW2
AMD-X5-133 (Am5x86-P75) @ 160Mhz
16 MB Ram
TERRATEC TT1816-S Soundcard
S3 Trio64V+ PCI Video Adapter
CF to IDE adapter for the Boot Drive (8GB industrial spec CF, formatted as Fat16 2GB)

Installed DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11

Now I can actually get on and enjoy playing with this computer. Initially had a real HDD as the boot drive, but the bearings were giving up and making an awful squealing sound. I need my sanity more than I need authentic clicks and grinds.

The Keyb/Mouse/Monitor/Speakers stay the same with all of my vintage builds atm, I just swap out whichever period base unit I want to use.

I forgot to ask; do you know what model Noctua that is for socket 775?

It's a Noctua NH-U9S, out of the box it doesn't support 775 but you can request a mounting kit (for free) from Noctua post purchase to get a bracket that fits 775 and X58. You gotta show proof of purchase of both, for the cooler I just screen shot the amazon purchase and for the mobo I just send a photo of. Got 3 of the brackets so far because i'm a Noctua fanboy

Thanks!

According to their site, the NM-I3 mounting kit can be used to make any of their coolers socket 775 compatible! Wow - that's awesome!

I don't know is this what they do normally, but mine was even sent by ups/fedex. I don't think they sent any kind of "your order has been sent" e-mail and I thought they just don't process these super fast which would have been perfectly fine, but like four days later the kit suddenly arrived directly to the door.

I had an ATI X800 Pro and never knew it was one of those that could have a quad unlocked by flashing an X800 XT BIOS.😅
But the GeForce 6800 Ultra with its beefy cooler and dual power connectors looked so badass back then!😎

To be honest, the X800 XT Platinum edition is the faster card, particularly when using AA4x and up.
The downside of it, was not suporting DX9.0c and its Shader Model 3. On the other hand, shaders had higher precision compared to NV40. There was a debate back then because of this. nVidia was lowering the precision of the shaders to compete in raw performance vs ATI X800 series. At naked eye, the diference was undetectable though.

I'm not promoting this project or anything but . . Dang does it make this easy 🤣

A quite nice Old Duron machine I finally have a chance to stretch it's legs!!

I like thinking of this as an early XP era Budget but high value gaming build.

Duron 1800
Abit AN7
512Mb DDR400
Nvidia GeForce4 MX440

Here a piece of my heart ( it was my first x86 machine when i was child ), just finished. A pure MS-Dos machine.

Cyrix 486dx2 66 mhz on an ABIT AB-PB4 rev 1.3
8 MB Ram
Hdd 6gb ( where i've made 2 partitions )
CD-R 32x
S3Virge DX 375 4MB ( but probably i'll mount a Cirrus Logic to make it more period correct )
Ymf 719s
A-trend ATC-3011 8-bit ISA I/O card ( which works like a charm, but probably i'll replace it with a Goldstar Magic AT to be more "confortable" )

And, the icing on the cake, a Roland mt-32 ver 1 ( it isn't showed in the photo, but was already tested. I've also a CM-64, SC-55 and a SC-88 ).

Soon i'll post my second one, an athlon xp barton 2800+ on a kt133a epox build which covers all the ages starting from msdos ( thank you throttle ) to WinXP first era 😉

Last but not least, i'll work on my third and last project: a PII klamath 300 mhz which i'll turn in an all-round machine mounting simultaneously a matrox millenium g200, a 3dfx Voodoo1 and V2, an S3 Virge DX 4MB, a Sb Vibra ct-2800, an MPU-401 ISA card and a Classic GUS rev 3.74 1MB.
