I'm using SC-55mkii with SB AWE64gold which is working fine in DOS Mode (SoftMPU). In Windows 95, is there any drivers I need to install to ensure I'm using it correctly for MIDI ?

At the moment, my Multimedia Properties, under MIDI, I selected External Midi port, is that the correct one if I intend to use SC for my midi ?

Selecting the external MIDI port (should be AWE64G MIDI Out [330] in your case) in the Multimedia Properties only works with Windows programs. To allow the use of external MIDI devices in DOS programs within Windows, do the following:

  1. Open the AWE Control Panel.
  2. Click "Device..." button.
  3. Uncheck "Allow MPU-401 Emulation on this device".
  4. Apply the changes.

This assumes that the drivers and necessary programs for the AWE64 Gold are installed.

One other thing, do we need to init SC55 into GM mode to get a proper sound for midi in windows 95 ?

It will be fine either in GM or GS mode. The latter being a sort of superset of GM.
