Can I run Syndicate Wars in a window so I can manager other tasks in the background? I tried just alt-tabbing to switch tasks and it locked the system up solid. I'm running WXP, by the way.

Also, I loaded update 1 for version 2.0.4. And I've got the Laucher installed as well.
I haven't seen any graphical (or non-standard text mode) DOS programs run in a window in Win2K/XP. You might try running it in DosBox (I think the URL is http://dosbox.zophar.net/ )
Games can not run in a windows under NTVDM. Your only options are an emulator such as Dosbox, Connectix Virtual PC, Dodge, Vmware.
IIRC, Syndicate Wars is DPMI so it cannot run in Dosbox.
I've found that DOS programs that run at any resolution above 320x240 (eg, VESA modes) cause Windows to lock up HARD when you try to Alt-Tab out of them.
Yes, it’s my fault.

Not on my XP. Only problem is sounds to tend to "hang"...
It probably depends on whether or not your video card drivers allow WinXP to save and restore the state of the video hardware properly and safely.

I don't think Windows locks up, but as I explained in my 'VESA modes' post, the screen is frozen, but Windows operates normally.

BTW, Last I had heard there was no satisfactory way of running this on a Modern PC.
