Since this week I own myself a real Yamaha DB50XG daughterboard.
I should know the sound by now since I often used the software version: softsynth S-YXG50.
..Unfortunately the DB50XG synth gives me some troubles:
1) Clipping - When playing midi files with winamp 2.95 the louder ones give crackles and pops. My other synths hardly have this issue. Now I managed to 'fix' this by letting the player send a certain 'sysex' command to the DB50XG lowering the master volume to about 85%. The player does this automatically before each song. (sysex 'F0 7F 7F 04 01 4F 4F F7' IIRC, 4F 4F are the new volumes, they range 00 to 7F)
2) Reversed stereo - When playing the Pandemonium midi from Doom 1 (E3M3), the instruments start on the left speaker on all my synths. But with the DB50XG the instruments start on the right. When plugging in a roland SCB-7 on the same waveblaster socket it plays it correctly on the left. I could not find any sysex command to reverse synth stereo... other midi players give the same behaviour.
There might be other issues too, the DB50XG sounds nice, but just not exactly like DB50XG recordings form other people. Is it possible that the previous owner modified something in the configuration of the card? how can I diagnose this and possibly reset this?
Thanks in advance
PS: anyone got scans or a PDF of the roland scd-10/scb-7 documentation for me?
