Not even as an investment? If I had $30K to blow on my hobby a year I would've sniped this one. A hobby is not just about rational purchases, there is passion too. Sometimes we spend a lot when we see something we get really excited about. It's not always smart but what is these days?

If I were to solely look at it as an investment, no... There are many other (more reliable) investment opportunities out there. But as a 99% hobby / 1% potential investment... sure. 😀

Wow, I thought it would go for much more than that.

Only one way to find out: how much did the last working V56k go for? Any data on this?

A sample of 2 is not good enough to judge. You need trading volume over an extended period of time. There is just not enough V5-6k to do that. It goes more by the rules of art pieces than by the rules of mass manufactured goods. As someone said before, highly volatile. This was sold for $15k, maybe a month from now it'd be sold for 50k and 6 months from now 10k.

Literally. Because at the very least that V5 6K will require cap replacement.

7500 * 12,9% + (15000-7500) * 2,35% + 30 cent commission = $1144.05 assuming freeshipping (else add it to the 15000 in the middle) 😁
Add more if he gets shafted by a complaining buyer and doesn't fully cooperate...

Right about now, I would be experiencing buyer's remorse. Soon after receipt, everyone else would be upset with me for putting the card away in the closet after a few 3DMark benchmarks and Unreal Castle fly-bys 😁

I wouldn't.
If I had that cash to spare for that it would mean that I have at least 100 times 15k at hand. Guessing a 6 zero figure of income.
I wouldn't experience any remorse. 🤣

Of course, if I had a billion dollars, I wouldn't either. Assume you are exactly where you are now with money and just spent $15,000, haha

Yah, you'd get criticized whatever though, either for not using it, "only sitting on a shelf" or for using it and "wearing out a rare part" like that old fable about the man and his son taking a donkey to market, ride it, lead it, both get on, etc etc according to opinions of other travellers.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Touché!
Yeah, it was crazy and is going to be a landmark in our future chats 😀
Nice ride and it made me value my cards even more, at least they have some deep meaning to me.

It reminds me of a yiddish story, the point was having two rabbis discussing all the points of view.
Well, I'd like to see the new owner bitchin' about this card with some YT reviews 😀

Someone commented on an ancient V56k post that the last one went for $10K before so yeah, not the best investment, it didn't even break even.

"But i guess it ends up at 10k dollars just as last time one of those went up on ebay."

15k seems like a lot for a Bitchin' Fast 3D 2000. Just think of how many bottles of VSOP you could get for that...

Right, or you could get more than three dozen eggs.

Seems Tom's Hardware made a small article about the sale. At the end of the article they add "We're trying to get additional details on who purchased the card, so if you're one of the two involved parties and would like to talk, drop me a note."

I hope they get a response.

Linus Tech Tips was apparently loaned this exact card and just released a video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrWfhbqURC4

Damn, you were faster than me! 😁

Later edit: well, that was... OK, but I was hoping for an LGR video. 🙁

The HiNT bridges on these things tended to die real quickly depending on the mainboard, most v5 6000 died this way. When I had 2 of these in the early 2000 for testing (hardware 3700A) we ran them on GA-7VRX boards built around a VIA KT333 chipset which were known to work well, drivers were Amigamerlin. We got the cards for around 800-1000€ back then, the 15k price is just stupid.

I’m more interested in the « new » builds like GamersNexus recently presented.

Edit: the article is apparently still up on http://www.x86-secret.com/articles/divers/v5- … 00/v56kgb-1.htm

Searching a Nexgen Nx586 with FPU, PM me if you have one. I have some Athlon MP systems and cookies.
