I have an old (working) Compaq Contura.
The screen is barely readable.
The brightness and contrast cannot be adjusted with the Fn combination.
Is the problem with the inverter? And if so, can that only be solved by looking for another inverter?

Are you sure it's not the aged CFL tubes? They do become dim with age.

That's my problem.. I don't know enough about that to rule out that problem.
Are spare parts for such a thing still to be found (Ebay or so)?
