That indeed, does appear to be a start capacitor as a run capacitor would have a little bit lower rating but yes, you are going to have to replace that for sure go to a HVAC supply house and they will have capacitors on the shelf

Yeah, also I noticed this cap just turned 40 so time to replace it. It's older than me and I'm paranoid about it shorting and killing the winding on this otherwise very strong and reliable motor. Age + damage doesn't look very promising. Thanks, I'm just the "if it works don't replace it" kinda guy so I needed a second opinion.

Some of those are not actually a single capacitor but two or three capacitors and a filter network potted up in one can.

Edit: the ones made at a factory I had a temp job at as a student decades back, were actually made with wound polyester film capacitors that self heal from voltage spikes, they don't actually really "age" but wear, in that the capacitance might go below a functional value if they have taken a lot of hits, but that could be two years 24/7 on a noisy line, or a century with occasional use on a quiet one.

That's probably the case with this one because it's a mixer that was used to build at least 3 houses but other than that it mostly just sat in a shed unused.
My biggest problem now is finding a start capacitor that's not a cheap Chinese crap but some reputable brand, too bad I don't know what's considered a decent and what's considered a bad brand with start capacitors. Comar, Ducati, OMU, Kendell, IKE, Miflex, Sintex, don't know any of them. Chinese ones are sold under a bunch of different names but all look the same. Price is all over the place.

Try a local oldschool appliance store that does repairs and servicing. Some older commercial size washing machines will have similar motors.

With my electronics repair background, Absolutely must replace this, the seam burst open and too crushed.
