Hi everyone,

There's something I had worried when I "upgraded" my XT compatible PC (4,77 MHz) to XTIDE (XT CF Lite clone which came with a custom XUB) build :
The speed difference between the old MFM controller/drive and the modern CF card.

However, to my surprise and joy, the performance was even lower, even the access time wasn't being improved! πŸ˜ƒ

Okay, so why was this "good"? Am I trolling?
No, it's really simple. I'm using my XT clone as an reference hardware and as a development PC for my hobbyies.

After all, that's what ancient XTs were good for: Testing games/applications for the lowest common denominator.
Otherwise, an AT would be the logical choice.

Due to the slow transfer speed and access times of XT-IDE, I can be sure that my compiled programs will load adequately on a PC with real MFM fixed-disk, still.

That's one of the few things that some emulators don't simulate accurately, as far I know.

They do simulate cycle-exact processor timings, but not an ancient MFM/RLL fixed-disk with a poor interleave factor.

So big thanks to XT-IDE for being so bad.
Or to quote Ralph from "WreckgIt Ralph" - "'I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad." πŸ˜‰

Best wishes,
Jo22
