I picked up (rescued) a Dell GX 620 from the county dump today and want to make it into a super-duper DOS/Windows machine.

I am having problems using a USB keyboard and mouse.

I have three USB keyboards. A Corsair and Steel Series does nothing. A generic looking HP branded keyboard gives double taps. A generic looking Dell branded keyboard seems to lack auto-repeat.

The only spare USB mouse I have seems to move the Windows arrow in some sort of 5-10 pixel grid pattern.

Unfortunately, the machine does not have any PS/2 ports. 🙁

What could be causing these problems? Is there a workaround for this?

Thanks! 😀

Hi! Check for options in the bios such as 'Legacy USB support' or 'USB keyboard' and enable them.

Most old systems (Pentium MMX+ till 775s) had this option but came disabled by default, and it's needed to have keyboard support for DOS.

Good luck!

I checked my BIOS setup. Such an option does not exist in this machine. 🙁

Doubt this is a good choice for DOS/Windows .... unless of course we're talking winXP (which the machine was released with)...

...however, I found this thread on the Dell site --> https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversatio … 4ccf8a8de5182a1

Perhaps it found the local dump for some good reason =)
