I bought this 9400 GT which had an extra little cable coming off of it from the top of the card. It inserts as two pins and terminates as three pins, even though it only uses two of them.

What is this extra cable for?

SPDIF audio passthrough. It's how the Geforce 8 and 9 (except 8800GTX) acheived audio over HDMI (or DVI/HDMI adapter).
