Any source on what BIOS versions support what CPUs? I can't believe how shitty or nonexistent BIOS infofiles are. "Added CPU microcode" without mentioning for which CPUs or CPU series is the best you'll ever get out of them, but 90% of the time it's just the naked .bin file without any information on why you may need it in the first place.

had a different BIOS

This model has socketed ROM, if you have an identical board just swap the flash chip.
About the versions, probably modded 3.19 is best as it supports everything including 45nm.

Hey gang,

I have a 4CoreDual-VSTA and have tried a PCI-E 8400 GS in it - this one https://www.gigabyte.com/uk/Graphics-Card/GV- … -512I-rev-14#ov - but there is no video output. The same card works fine in a couple of other rando setups so I know it works, and I guess the mobo just won't work with certain cards and up? It has the 2.39a bios on it. The patch notes add support for the ATI HD 3XXX/4XXX cards I see, but no mention of Nvidia cards..
I see the GeForce 8400 GS has a rev 1, 2 & 3 transitioning to PCIe 2.0 with rev 2. The reason for wanting to use this card is to compare it with my 8400 pci card in case anyone is wondering why I want an 8400 GS working!

Could anyone tell me the limitations of PCIe GPU support on this board? Is there a list of known working cards or list of ones that don't work? Fastest PCIe GPU for this mobo? That sort of thing.

Those boards PCIe compatibility is indeed hit and miss.
I had Radeon X600Pro 128MB not POST in it.
There is evidence of: 7950GX2 and HD5870 working.

Hi, I'm a newbie but decided to join having read some of this long interesting thread.

As part of a project to build a dedicated Fold@home rig out of stuff I had lying around https://mr-ives.blogspot.com/2023/11/building … -pc-server.html ,
I tried an ASUS GeForce GT 1030 card in the PCI-E slot and my 775dual-vsta based machine and can confirm it wouldn't boot to BIOS.
Currently running a modest Radeon HD 5450 and that works fine i.e Linux sees it and can run X on it, but FAH can't see the GPU so running on just the Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz. I'm pondering if a CPU upgrade might be easy or not. ?

With the latest modded bios version you can install C2D E7600 which is faster and cooler than E6600. That is, if you don’t take Core2Extreme parts.

Thanks Bruno. my BIOS is the original P3.00 American Megatrends, so guess I'm stuck without a BIOS upgrade ?

Arguably the full potential of this board is reached through the use of 45nm CPUs (Wolfdale) which are indeed only fully supported with a said bios ver. Compatibility-wise you get the same as you would with Conroe but in lower heat output. I don’t see any good reason staying on the stock version.

I bought this one second hand, just tried it for the first time with an e8400 and surprisingly enough it posts and even shows its an e8400. Will probably not run on full speed due to 1066fsb?

Of course not. That's better than average Core 2 Conroe though.

Are there modded BIOS files for the 4CoreDual-SATA2 or just the 775Dual-VSTA?

Looks awesome. QX9770 is certainly fast enough for win98 😁

Is there any problems with riser cable fit / compatibilty? Since motherboard is only pcie 2.0 x4 does the power / signaling work fine?

The board is only PCIe 1.0, but generally there should be no issues with risers.

Why does under Windows 98 SE nvidia driver installers (all versions possible) don't detect nvidia GPU but under Windows ME there is no such problems and all drivers versions can see GPU and install even ones not meant for that GPU (they just don't work after installation and ones meant for that GPU work)?

No issues with Fractal Design FLEX VRC-25 Riser 😀

BTW Capacitors markings are wrong on PCB (minus sign indicate the positive).
