step 1.) you need to install an audigy 2 zs card first in your computer (buy one)

step 2.) install drivers from audigy 2 zs platinum cd

step 3.) remove the audigy 2 card from the pci slot and replace the card with audigy 4 pro (connect external drive to) and boot in safe mode

step 4.) uninstall ''sound blaster audigy 2'' in control panel add remove programs

step 5.) reboot back into safe mode to complete the uninstall (otherwise windows will hang at the windows 98 loading screen)

step 6.)boot into normal mode and windows will find an ''audigy processor'' let it install

you should now have working 2.1 sound but no way to use 5.1 or configure anything as thx console, eax etc.. will not install even from the audigy 2 cd
but its working sound. i also installed asio4all (2006 version)and it works great as windows 98se doesn't seem to install the creative asio drivers when using an audigy 4 pro.
i will try to get audio console working next but we'll see.

Good to know!! I was holding on to my Audigy 4 until I could find a SB Live! (SB0100) for my Win98 build without knowing it would actually work... Cuz yeah, I too have an Audigy 2 ZS (in another build). Thank you good sir!

thx if you're into recording audio the inputs will not work with the audigy 2 drivers. so far i tried ''wave'' or ''what you hear''. I haven't tried any actual inputs yet from the external drive but i doubt they will work. but as a high quality cs4398 playback sound card (yes dos mode is confirmed working, tested with old school emulator GENECYST) it sounds good on windows 98se. also confirmed working is digital optical out on the external drive (i haven't tried headphone out yet but i'm sure it works). i have it connected via optical out to my external sony receiver and 2001 JVC speakers.
