Hello Vogons! I am new here so if I get something wrong, do tell. I love old computers and recently put together a Slot 1 system. As the title suggests, I need help with setting up my SoundBlaster Live! CT4620 on this machine. Preliminary research has brought forth the fact that these Live! cards may have issues with my current configuration which follows:
Motherboard: EPoX/ProNiX EP-6VBA (VIA VT82C693 (Apollo Pro+))
Processor: Slot1 Intel Pentium III (650 Mhz)
Graphics: SiS 6326 AGP
Sound: Onboard Avance Logic ALC201A (AC’97 Audio CODEC) + SoundBlaster Live! CT4620
Storage: Creative 52X CD-ROM + Maxtor 80GB ATA
Extra Peripherals: PCI Ethernet + PCI Modem
I have tried installing the VXD drivers on this machine under Windows 98 SE but to be met with no sound. I get blue screens complaining about the SoundBlaster 16 emulation and constant hangs on shutdowns, reboots, and cold boots (See picture below). I have confirmed that this SoundBlaster works using another Slot1 motherboard with a very similar configuration but with an intel chipset. I have also tried manually changing IRQ in BIOS as well as physically moving the card to different PCI slots.
If you have any ideas in regards to possible solutions for this issue, I'd love to hear! Thanks for your time!
