I'm having problems getting MS-DOS 6.22 to recognise my SanDisk 2 GB Ultra CF card (model number: SDCFH-2048) on my Toshiba Tecra 500CDT laptop. The laptop has the Toshiba ToPIC95 CardBus controller chipset.
When I performed a surface scan of the compact flash drive using SCANDISK, the surface scan stops at cluster 4 and hangs until I eject the card. Also, when I also tried to copied a bitmap file (AITANA.BMP), I end up getting a Sector Not Found writing drive D error.
I used a PNY Optima 1 GB compact flash card and it works fine without problems. It seems that the SystemSoft CardWizard software has problems attempting to properly recognise compact flash cards above 1 GB - which weren't available at the time when it was released in mid-1996.
Here are the screenshots of the issue that I provided below:
I must apologise for the bad screenshot, but this came from my AT&T Calypso 3 phone while I was taking pictures of the issue.
Are there any other PCMCIA drivers that I can try to overcome the 1 GB limit? I tried the CardBus Enable utility (CBENAB.EXE) and it recognise the 2 GB CF drive and it seemed to work. I hate having to pay more money, plus shipping and handling just to download a compatible PCMCIA driver!
Here are my CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files for reference:
