Greetings,

I settled on a Diamond Stealth 64 for my 486 box. I scored a Diamond version of my very first sound card, so my 486 is going to be a Diamond box, hehehe... I got tired of looking for a 1993 card, but since this is a 486DX2 and we had upgraded to one back in 1994, I decided to go with this. Plus, some form of S3 chipset is the most commonly recommend for MS-DOS games. I almost wen t with a Trio64, but I got a decent deal on this card, instead. I have a Windows accelerator on the way, so I am going to see if I can put both in the system and use a VGA switch box. I need my Windows For Worgroups 3.11 to run good, and my MS-DOS games to look great!

Can anyone recommend a good, trusty, and affordable vendor for the RAM upgrade chips?

Many thanks!

Wow! Thank you! I never upgraded an old card before. I am thankful to experience all of things I never got to experience, back in the day. My 486 is going to be perfect, soon! I have an 8mb ATI 3d Rage II card in there, though that is only because that is what I had, and it has Windows 3.x drivers. However, it is overkill for this system and from 1996 or 1997, so upgrading and installing the Diamond is going to be great! Some might think that I am crazy for this, but I am actually removing an AWE32 (CT2760) to put the Diamond sound card in. The AWE32 and the ATI will eventually find a new home once I can build a Pentium 166-233 (whichever one I can eventually get my hands on.)

Thank you again! I truly appreciate it!

You're welcome, but remember to apply the contact cleaner/lubricant to the sockets before inserting the RAM chips.

25ns EDO Rams are maybe a bit overkill, when the other 2 chips which are already there are only 70ns types.

That's the cheapest one I've found.

Thank you, will do! Can that stuff be used on dirty knobs? I acquired a Tandy computer speaker which sits beneath a computer monitor, and while it works, I have to play with the knobs and hear static until it cleans up. It is neat as it has two inputs, which I will use for midi music/sounds, alongside some retro labtec speakers for Sound Blaster stuff.

Absolutely, apply it to the potentiometer and rotate it a couple of times.
