Planning to use Windows 95 on an old 486 DX4 100mhz Iäm planning to get but it seems like my chances of fidning an up to date internet browser is quite slim...am I right?

Firefox and Opera works fine in Win95 for me
yes but firefox needs a 233 mhz processor MINIMUM and he has a 486.
You could try kmeleon which ran great on my P 133
OR
You could try ACE Browser and Enigma browser

I dunno about you, but it was usable on my 150MHz Pentium. Then again it had 80mb of ram
Really?Gonna try that like right now 😜
I wouldn't be surprised if Firefox relies on 686 instruction sets, so comparing to a Pentium probably isn't a valid comparison 😒
Yes, it’s my fault.
I was hoping for some browser to work for downloading files etc so I don't have to fiddle with transfering stuff from my Mac or main PC via cd-rom's

Which versions?
I know firefox relies on at least Internet Explorer 6 to be on the machine

Eh???? No it doesn't. It would rather defeat the purpose for a Web browser to have a dependency on another Web browser.

Give it up! Live in the now man!
Tried Firefox 1.5 on my 486 once. To my surprise it worked, but it wasn't really useable because of the lame CPU and low RAM (64 MB).

What about a simple Windows p2p network (Samba)? FTP? SCP? These things work great on my 486 with DOS/Win3.11.

I'm under the impression it needs some files from IE 6

So you mean I shall use my AMD X2 6000+ PC for legacy DOS gaming? 😵
You have any more good jokes this eveing.... 😉

This is false. Firefox (at least 1.5) works on Windows 95, which has never had Internet Explorer 6 available.
P.S. Fast computer + DOSBox = legacy gaming awesomeness.

Emulators are against my religion, it's a known fact on some forums 😁
I want to fiddle with real hardware, without it I loose the feel completely
IE 5.5 is probably the fastest option. And it will work pretty well. It's probably a scary exploit disaster warning zone though. I use it occasionally without much issue on my retro-building excursions. It's the newest IE that will work on Win95.
Just use IE4, it's so old no one even remembers how to exploit it, or much more importantly, would try to do so...
Hell, Windows 95 is a scary exploit disaster warning zone. You really shouldn't take it anywhere near the Internet.
Yes, it’s my fault.

This man speaks the truth. For me I can play all my games from all different ages on one PC, as opposed to having several DOS machines. For instance the one you mentioned will run several games way too fast at 100mhz, while at the same time you can't play high resolution Vesa games without struggling.
