Hi. First post on the forum.
After being away from vintage PC gaming for oh so very long, I got an itch to build a Windows 98SE setup for the PowerVR version of MechWarrior 2. As for the main graphics adapter I'm thinking about a Matrox Mystique 220 or G200/400 etc. But apart from that I'm not very confident what parts to go for. So...
What processor would be ideal to run the game at a solid 60fps at 640x480? I'm limiting all the other games I would play on the system (Earthsiege 2, Heavy Gear) to that same resolution and refresh rate, as I will be using a late 90s plasma panel with the same native resolution. The Matrox cards have the best signal quality, and I've had wavy sync issues with some sources with the panel. So I'm playing it safe. In terms of parts what else should I pay attention to? I won't bother with DOS games on this setup. Some years ago I did hook up a Thinkpad 380D to the plasma, and all DOS games I tried worked just fine. So maybe the panel can do 70Hz? I've never been able to find a manual to confirm. It's a Mitsubishi XP-4015X AKA Leonardo.
I do appreciate all kinds of feedback, but please take it easy on me. All I want to do is play some mech games in a big screen that's very dear to me. And MechVM won't do. This is a very specific project to play a certain version of a game from a certain time period on a certain screen using real hardware. Cheers.
