Its gonna be a long post, so my question is gonna be in the last paragraph...
I wanted to build a 486 rig.. i had a great deal on a Tm-486sps motherboard.. with 16 mb edo ram. Neighter i or the person who sold me know that its not compatible with edo ram.. only with FPM. Also i was stupid enough to try to take out the cache chips to debug the system.. i was alos stupid enough to put back the tag ram in the wrong way.. hence i burd down the chip, but even than if i disabled the external cache the system seemd to work.. Meanwhile someone here told me to order FPM ram and with that it should work. so thats what i did.. I also got new cache chips to try if it work with that.
I thaught i was lucki.. because the system booted perfectly with the new rams and when the cache chips arrived it got recognised by the board, so everything seemd fine.. till the next day when the mouse stopped worknig. Which i thaugt that the mouse itself is broke, so i ordered a new one.. only when it arrived i realised that its not the mouse.. its the motherboards port is faulty.. I have 2 cable fro the com ports.. i tested with both but neighter worked, so my conclusion was that it must been the board itself.
So i orderted an other motherboard.. Which as i installed in the system, id did not recognised the cache chips.. it only booted when the external cache was disble.. I am talking about an other mobo with other cache chips not with the previous ones.. It was a Lucy star Ls-486 rev c2 (unfortunately i couldnt test with the previous cache chips because i gave them bac to the guy whoom i broughted from).. also the motherboard didnt recognised any ide cd rom drives.. i have 4 of them and tryed all but none of them got recognised by the system.. only the hard drives.. So gave it back to the seller, for a refound.. Later on he told me that he tested, and didnt had the error with the cache chips (which is really wierd, why it only happeds with me ), but he also couldnt make the cd roms work..
So i brought an other motherboard, a KM-S4-1.. When i installed, it recognised tha cache chips, but did not recognised any cd rom drives.. also the com ports didnt worked....
i realised, that the bios chip looked almost identical on this one and on the firs motherboard that i brought the Tm-486sps.. so i swapped them.. suprisingly it worked so now it recognise the cd rom drive.. and the cache chips, but still the com ports are not working.. So i am thinking to go in the other way and instead og buying a fourt motherboard, i just gonna buy a com port extention card..
I brought a https://www.ebay.com/itm/175250303600?mkcid=1 … emis&media=COPY card which seems quite new to me.. so i am not sure if it has a dos or win 3.11/ or win 95 driver.. so i wonder if anybody here could tell me if its gonna work in my system? Or maybe has a driver for it? I also might could get a card like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/125342592133?mkcid=1 … emis&media=COPY
Since this is a isa card, i hink it might fitt better with my rig, and might could work in dos , but i stil couldnt find a driver for it.. Also the seller who has the card told me that the last time he used it wan 27 years ago.. and wasnt be able to test it ever since, so it might not work . But anyway thats where i am at now.. i only would need to make the com port working and than i would get a nice system..
