Hi

I'm looking for a simple battery replacement for Chaintech 4SLE M106 mobo. The original rechargeable nimh barrel battery was 3,6V and luckily had not damaged anything by leaking yet.

The various posts I have found (e.g Re: Tick tock) suggest that direct replacement with non-rechargeable (e.g. cr2032) is not possible and this is understandable. I would like to avoid any electrical modifications and keep the solution as simple as possible.

The manual mentions following about J4:

This connector may be used to connect an external 4.5V to 6V battery to back up or replace the on-board battery.

If I use e.g. 2x cr2032 in serial to get 6V would this avoid the need for electrical modifications to prevent the attempted recharge?

Or even better is the J4 wiring different and avoids the recharge in the first place?

Has anyone succesfully added non-rechargeable battery without modifications?

Or should I try and find 3,6V nimh instead?

Thanks in advance

3xAAA or 3xAA would better IMO. CR2032s will run flat quickly in that board.

You need to test the external battery header. Some board pump out charge on them, some don't. If you board does, you need to use a diode. A 1N4148 would be most appropriate. You cannot use a Schottky diode, as they have too much leakage and will still allow some charging.
