VOGONS

I'm testing an old voodoo1 card. I ran unreal, and the GLide video option appears to work, but the game is displayed inside a window. I can't get the game to be displayed completely full screen, so that the window is not visible. Any ideas please people?

Also, can someone please recommend an old Windows GLide game, so that I can test a Voodoo1 card? I tried the demos of Quake2 and Heretic2, but neither worked. When I selected the 3dfx option inside the video options area, it just defaults back to software mode. I need to download a Windows GLide game/demo, just to make sure this card works OK. Thanks a lot.

Driver problems. There's no way you played Unreal 1 in a window and with Glide mode. It was probably running in Software Mode. I think there might be a problem with the drivers. I used to have a similar problem. Just stick with the latest reference drivers and reinstall.

OK, thanks. Actually, I am reinstalling Win98SE. I've spent about 5 hours doing about 10 voodoo reinstalls, and I'm not making any progress. I've got two V1 cards, and both act strangely.

A few years ago, I tested a bunch of V1 cards, and never had a single problem with them. This time, I've had nothing but problems. I just can't get them to work at all. It's really weird. I've been thinking: what I am doing differently now, compared to a couple of years ago. The only thing I can think of is that I now use the unofficial service pack for Win98SE. I'm going to omit that installation, and just see if a V1 card will work on a completely fresh Win98SE reinstall...

Nah I use that unofficial patch as well and it just ran fine. It happens some times.

Solved! Before, I was using the V1 reference drivers from the 3dfxzone website. However, I've just noticed that the readme file for these V1 drivers says "Voodoo2". So, they were not the correct drivers to use. I did the successful reinstallation in this order:

Reinstall Win98SE, with a basic PCI video card.
Insert V1 card in to mobo.
Turn on machine, Win98SE says "I've found a voodoo card", cancel this default auto installation.
Install V1 card driver package.
Run Unreal in GLide mode. It works - full screen, no driver problems.

Thanks. 😀

Edit: One other thing: one of the two V1 cards is definitely defective. That was causing a lot of problems and confusion. Now I have a 100% working system, I tried the other V1 card and it completely fails to do anything useful.
