Well, April is of to a magnificent start. VP6s and 486 are now at customs in the country (Bucharest) so in a few days they might be here.
Meanwhile, I was looking over some classified ads and these caught my eye.
Eagle eyes should tell very easily why I didn't THE SLIGHTEST hesitate to click the "Buy now" button.
For those who don't know - 7800GS and the soundcard alone. And some spare fans 🤣, because I quite need those for Socket A/370 coolers.
Interesting lot. Looks like an M-Audio Audiophile 192 sound card. So, a pro-audio\recording studio type thing. Hopefully the breakout cable is there in the lot since it's lacking most of the usual ports.
As for the 7800GS, I hope that works out for you. Cards of that type and generation are so prone to being damaged that I have pretty much stopped bothering with them. It's a combination of the weight, the absolutely TINY components on the back (with only a partial backplate) and the fact that no one cared about AGP cards within a year or two of these being released, so I'm guessing they got tossed into parts bins with no antistatic bag and little care taken. I have had so many in my hands and almost all of them had damaged components on the back.
The way people treat old video cards (which they often try to sell) makes me wonder if they think the SMD components are just some sort of grit sprayed onto the back of the PCB with an adhesive so the card is less slippery.
Let us know if the card works and is intact! I'm hoping you got a good one. 😀
(Also, the other AGP card should be an ASUS Radeon 9250.)
Now for some blitting from the back buffer.
