I got hold of an IBM DPES-31080 1GB SCSI disk which I would put into my IBM PS/2 56SX to have more space available. Originally it has an 250MB drive in it which works fine. After replacing the drive I got the expected I9990303 error which means the computer could not find its service/system partition. I booted of the reference disk and wanted the re-create the system partion. Upon that I got an error stating the drive has no system partition or could not accessed. The drive itself should be fine. It is visible in the diagnostics and can be accessed with an booted DOS floppy. I wiped all partitions of it but I could not create a service partition with the ref disk. I'm aware of a problem with larger drives as documented at http://www.mcamafia.de/mcapage0/scsi1gb1.htm.

Are there any PS/2 secialists around to help me get the drive set-up?

Could you maybe use Norton ghost to clone the 250 to the 1gb?

Oh 🤣. From 3 years ago

There is probably something left on the disk confusing the setup process?
DPES 31080 should be no problem in a PS/2 Model 56. I have one installed in mine too.
Keep in mind the IBM controller allways tries to boot from ID6 first, not 0 like Adaptec/NCR.
This creates funny failures running Linux mit multiple SCSi drives.
