Greetings,

I have an HP t5570 thin client that I use as a retro gaming platform. Initially, I installed Freedos to play MS-DOS games, but I am really interested in installing Windows 98 on my thin client.
I tried a few tutorials and modified ISOs, but on all occasions, after installing Windows 98, my machine freezes during the boot process.

Does anyone have advice on installing Windows 98 on this machine? Is it possible?

Does your PC have more than 512Mb RAM? If so, there's a well-documented issue with Windows 98 that causes a crash on systems with very large amounts of memory (by late 1990s standards).

If you can't reduce the amount of system memory to 512Mb or less, try hitting F8 immediately after the BIOS boot screen to get a DOS prompt, then copy across and run the PATCHMEM.EXE utility from http://vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=1814&menustate=0. This will patch Windows 98 to allow it to run with larger amounts of RAM installed.

Don't use FreeDOS to install Windows 98. It's broken.
