I have a CT3670 I haven't used yet, but the RAM slots are empty and I'm wondering if there's a reason to get SIMMs for it. I understand a utility can be used to load audio samples into it, but what are use cases for this? Is it primarily gaming? If so, which ones support this? And which ones provide samples to load?

The RAM is used to store samples for the EMU8K.

For gaming, it is primarily used for MIDI music and in Windows you can use SF2 SoundFonts with larger amounts of RAM (up to 28 MB).

It can be used for MOD style tracker as well, but that kind of usage is rare with the EMU8K.

What are some uses for SF2 Soundfonts? I have never heard about this before despite having a computer in the 90s.

Depending on the SoundFont you're using, it is to improve the MIDI music quality. These appeared in the late 90s.

Ok, makes sense. Thank you for explaining.
