Just finished putting together my other retro PC, this one is my XP machine (my other one is a Win98 build which I'll post up separately).

I picked this motherboard up from a junk pile on the nature strip LoL

Specs:

Case: Fractal Define 7 Mini
Motherboard: GA-H81M-DS2 (rev. 2.0)
CPU: i3
RAM: 8 GB
GFX: ASUS GTX 750 OC 2 GB
HD: Kingspec SATA 3
SFX: Sound Blaster X-Fi
OS: WinXP 32bit Professional

The build was very easy to assemble, none of the hassles that I had with my Win98 build. Basically I just plugged everything and turned it on and it just works.

I missed out on this era growing up as I'd moved over to consoles so I'm excited to revisit some of these old games on a PC.

Loving this build, working so well with Dead Space 2 and GTA 4 (1024*768 @ 60 FPS) on my CRT.

Back in the day, I missed out on this period of PC gaming because I'd moved over to consoles.

Cool to be able to revisit this period of gaming 😀

Wasn't very expensive to put together either, cost less than my win98 build for sure.

The one thing that sticks out is the RAM, compared to the rest of the components it seems a bit low. 2GB should make even the later XP games happy.

Okay, interesting I'll take a look.

Thanks 👍

Update: checked, I've actually got 8 GB installed 😉

Finally got my win98 build completed 😀

So I now have 2 identical retro gaming builds to swap between (XP and Win98). Happy times 😀
