I have a strange graphics card. It is built using a Radeon 9700PRO PCB and an R360 (9800PRO) GPU. It has a Radeon 9800 BIOS however, and that is bugging my OCD self to no end.

I feel that this card would fill a better hole in my collection if I flashed it to a Radeon 9700PRO. I know a lot of people in the day flashed their 9700PROs to 9800 and it worked. I assume flashing it down to a 9700PRO would/should also work? Looking at TPU's BIOS collection, I have found a few BIOS files that were specifically for 9700PROs built using R350s and Hynix ram, so I am going to start by testing those first.

Has anyone else ever tried this?

The 9700 Pro was not flashable to a 9800 Pro., so reverse flashing will not work.

The reason being the difference R300 vs R350 core... and in this case even more difference with your card being a R360 which was a R350 revision, which the 9800 XT also used.

So your 9800 Pro should be able to be flashed to a 9800 XT.

I think all r300 GPUs were pin compatible.
I've seen both 9800 on 9700/9500 pcb's and the way around : 9700 on 9800 pcb's
