Hi all,

I need to get a GPU for my Windows 98 PC, which is otherwise an Abit BX133 Raid with a 1GHZ Tualatin processor.

I know that the 4800 is a faster card, but I've seen various information that the 4200 series overclocks better possibly because of more robust components.

Basically what I'm asking is am I going to have any real perceptible difference in these series for my use case or is it best to just buy whatever from the series that I can find for the best price?

I probably won't be playing anything newer than ,
2001 at the very latest.

Thanks

Your probably won’t notice much of a difference in performance between a ti 4600/4800 and a ti 4200 with a 1Ghz P3, but my experience is that the higher end GeForce 4s are prone to VRAM failures, while the ti 4200 seems immune. Maybe I’m just very unlucky, but I have several ti 4600 boards that I will one day swap the BGA RAM out on.

As an added bonus, ti 4200s are cheaper too!

Thank you, I vaguely remember hearing that some of the components on the 4200 were actually better, but that could just be my shoddy memory, interesting to hear real world experience!

Much cheaper, and I'm pretty sure the 4200 is what I had back in the day too, right up until I think I needed Shader Model 2.0 support!
