Evening all,

I have been trying to geet some socket A Via KT133 boards to work with some Athlon and Athlon XP era processors but seem to be having issues. I have a Duron @ 800mhz and the 3 boards seem to work with it. But even if I put an Athlon Classic @ 1.2ghz into these boards they seem to just sit on a black screen. I can give more details if asked but wanted to pick everyone's mind on the issue.

So KT133 doesn't officially support 133/266 bus speed, KT133A does. Possibly the 133/266 bridge on a 133/266 CPU might upset older/dumber boards. Possibly some later or hacked BIOS might ignore this, but it may still only boot at 100/200 by default. Some Kt133 could get to 133 overclocked, 140 even, but some topped out at 124/125. If it is the AMS3B version, the 100/200 version of the 1200 then you may have power problems. Either on the board due to degraded capacitors or from the PSU not supplying enough Amps on 5V

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Man you are a life saver. I've been reading online and seeing conflicting details on this information which was not helping me diagnose this issue. You also hit the nail on the Classic being a AMS3B variant. Seems I've been barking up the wrong tree with this project. I've been wanting a socket A board with ISA to use with older sound cards. I noticed a Gigabyte GA-71XE4 for sale on ebay and it comes with an 1ghz cpu so chances are it's uses the AMD 751 chipset so hoping that'll work out.
