Anyone have one of these? I have this really quite nice 486 PCI mobo but it's limited to serial, parallel, and KB DIN. Serial mice are just not my favorite thing 🤣 (choppy and few mice work).

I've been watching ebay but these cards are ultra rare...

Are you sure there's not a PS/2 header on the motherboard somewhere, and that all you really need is one of those little PS/2 dongle thingies? (Seems odd that a PCI motherboard would be completely lacking something like that.)

Hmm,now that I look at it again it seems like it's a PCI version not ISA.Will try to take a picture on Saturday.

FYI the asus 486SP3 pci 486 motherboard has a ps/2 header onboard. Not exactly what you want, but if the card costs heaps, replacing the motherboard could be an option - & this one is a pretty good one.

Oh but this only supports mice. You can use an at to ps/2 adapter for the keyboard however.

You could also try a Serial to PS2 adapter so you can hook up a ps2 mouse to a serial port. A quick search found this one on ebay:

They often suck

Have tried some different one's with different PS/2 mice and found none to work in pure DOS with either MOUSE.COM, CTMOUSE.EXE and other popular mouse drivers

Serial to ps2 adapters only work if the mouse supports ps2 and serial protocols
At start up, mouse checks on what kind of port it is connected and selects which protocol to use.

There are more expensive adapters who convert protocol

I have a MSI MS4144 motherboard. I think it has a unsoldered PS2 connector on the board up by the DIN KB connector, but that probably means there are missing surface components for it. Some of these boards probably came with PS2 KB and mouse.

Nice board, but I wish it had 4 PCI. Don't need all those ISA slots. It'll run every CPU ever made for Socket 3 though.

And yes I do have a serial to PS2 adapter. Like said above though, the mouse has to support serial or it doesn't work. T fhe only mouse I could find that worked with serial is a POS generic ball mouse (PS2+serial) that was the last one in stock at a computer shop.

I managed to find those converters I said.Well it appears they aren't converters.Take a look at these babes:

They are kinda strange and it appears that I have another pair on my 486.

Huh? What's so strange? These connect the mainboard or addon card with the outside of the case.

Well I had never seen them before so that's why they were strange to me 😉
