Hello, I was given a legendary DELL OPTIPLEX model GS, PENTIUM 200 MHZ, but when I opened the box, I saw that the CPU radiator has no cooler. I have read advice from other forums about similar to my problem, and they advise that this factory heatsink be removed, and a heatsink with a socket 462 cooler can be put in its place. Of course, I have 10 heatsinks with socket 462 coolers, but I can't see how I'm going to fit it, due to the fact that the PSU settles on halfway over the stock factory heatsink. So, let anyone with more experience modding coolers and radiators help.

When all computers were pizza boxes , I wanted a tower case. Now that all computers are towers, the classic pizza-boxes look awesome!

That heat sink has quite a big surface area. Are you sure that the PSU's fan isn't adequate for the job?

If it's dual it's kind of cool ... 😎

Why not just cable-tie a large fan to that huge heatsink? That CPU won't go much over 16 watts anyway.

Is a fan supposed to be mounted on the case next to it? The heatsink is obviously designed to be fanless.

I suspected there might once have been a fan duct or shroud to increase air flow around the heatsink.

Either way, MacGyvering a fan to the heatsink in such a way that it's airflow direction matches that of the nearby PSU fan would likely help with cooling and thus reluability and longevity.

I suspected as much, but extra cooling is almost never a bad thing, unless this design over-engineered on that front to begin with.
