I was thinking we could have a thread for this card. Could those who own it post drivers, benchmarks, experiences.

I have that chipset in I think a Compaq Presario laptop, and I have foggy recall of not managing to get much working other than the compaq drivers, but that could have been other machine specific foibles, and that I wasn't very invested last time I was into it, was just a 3rd choice websurfer at that time... so I haven't come back to it in retrogaming frame of mind yet.

I think there is a section in the vogon drivers having to do with mobility drivers that can work with this card.

I have one of these but never got around to getting the drivers sorted. I have seen a few sold with the driver cd for it but never found them online.

Are there any specific advantages to a 7500 Mobility variant versus a regular 7500 on desktop setup ?

If I remember correctly the mobility version isnt as strong. I have a standard 7500 pci I could test it against if I ever sort the driver thing.

Plenty of reference to the Diablotek drivers just never found them.

Ack, TY. So there is no real advantage to these mobile variants on a desktop machine, is there ?

Driver-wise, I suppose you mean these [1], that unfortunately seem to have been lost to the sands of time .

Great question, my guess would be no, but I am curious to learn more about what exactly it is. I believe it is different silicon than 7500. But I would have to dig farther before swearing to it.

I never gave them much attention other than seeing them on vogons and on ebay from time to time, I saw a good deal on one and will soon be the owner. Figured may as well do an information gathering operation both for my experiments and for future users.

There are a few threads which I can’t recall the links to that dove a little bit into these, I would love to cross link that info if someone knows where those posts went.

ATI Radeon 7500 PCI not working

Found one.

Btw, this is from a different seller than was dispensing those mobile ones. It looks very similar but The one I get in may be a normal one, for the sake of the thread I hope not 🤣. 😂 probably won’t know until I pop the heatsink

Well here's what Tech Powerup has... https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/#7500

So seems to be a different core... seems like the f*ckup fairy was involved though somewhere, I am looking at that sink and thinking "It's a mobile chip why does it need about 25W or so of cooling???" and lookup that M7 and guess what, 27W chip, though clocked a little slower than the desktop 7500.... which is listed at 23W, lul wat?

That’s some decent wattage for a gfx of that time.

You’re thinking typo?

Here is what I am thinking,

At some point someone got ahold of this card design and a bunch of mobile chips and stuck them together and called it a day leaving everyone to figure it out.

I added to last post that, I’m actually not 100% sure that the card I am getting will be a mobile, it’s hard to tell unless seller posts a pic with sink off. But this card looks exactly like others I have seen that were.

The card wasn't expensive, and it was interesting to test what some crazy Chinese people had soldered together. But rather unsuitable as a regular card. It would just be interesting to see what's under the cooler. 😉

Simple answer to the history of this line of cards.... it was brought to you by Diablotek....... the same company that made and sold $30 exploding power supplies.

I'm guessing someone out there has a copy of the driver CD maybe they are too ashamed to admit it.

I think this is what I was going to try but still havent. http://vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=1585&menustate=0

now I need to know more about this power supply haha!

Can anyone confirm if this pcb/heatsink design made its way into genuine cards or not or is this design exclusively mobile chips?

The heatsink appears to have been used on 9000/9200/9250 cards.

Mobility 7500 should be pretty much like an underclocked desktop one, with up to 32MB of RAM integrated in the package. 6W TDP.

I only had the Radeon 7000M in the ThinClient for comparison. Good compatibility under DOS, no problems with corresponding Win 98 3D games. No unusual driver was necessary either. On the other hand, this self-assembled 7500 PCI from 2011, according to the sticker, is practically unusable. I have no idea why you would need it in a suitable PC.

Oh noes, what have the Chinese sweat shops cobbled up together again? 😁

Not sure I can help with answering any of the questions regarding the drivers, but one thing I can tell you for sure is PUT ON A DAMN HELMET! (And safety glasses too!) I see a lot of bulging vent-less electrolytic Sacon FZ c[r]apacitors on your card. These things are complete and utter garbage! Advisable to get rid of them before they completely pop. Because they are vent-less, they can actually do some damage to your other hardware too, namely by shooting out as projectiles and/or the shot can falling on a component and shorting it out.

Otherwise, it looks like an OK PCI card to use... provided you can get the drivers situation solved.
I bought a similar Chinesium Radeon 9600 "XT" card (with same Sacon FZ caps, though mine had the courtesy to have vents stamped on them), and it's actually a decent video card once I recapped it. Wasn't clocked at XT speeds though (both the GPU nor RAM.) But it's overall somewhere between a standard 9600 and a Pro, and I can push the core to XT speeds, given it's a newer RV360. So all in all, not a bad purchase. I believe I posted about it on BCN forums, if anyone cares to look for it.

It’s a conversation piece. I would like to get it working though 😀

More like an IED, if i get this right. 😁

I tried 3 PCs: Two different SS7 Boards, no boot . Worked on a Socket A with "Omega" drivers (Win98SE).
Didn`t try any other OS.

You bet! 🤣

I mean, you can clearly see in this picture that at least one capacitor is badly bulging and tilted (due to too much pressure built up already, so the bung is letting go at the bottom.)

On that note, this could well be why the video card is not working in some systems and not taking any drivers in others. Recapping it might actually solve those issues.
