Just wondering if anyone here has heard of this? If the name Seer Systems sounds familiar, it's because they provided WaveSynth/WG for the AWE64.

SurReal is a softsynth with 64 note polyphony and Sondius technology, based on Seer Systems 'Reality' synth engine which was effectively a software rack mount synth module. SurReal added a GM soundset and turned it into a soft synth.

There seems to be very little information available online about it however. I'm only bringing it up now because I recently managed to find a retail copy of it by sheer luck on a Japanese auction site (it's an English version too).

Curious as to if anyone here had heard of it or indeed tried it.

Finally had a bit more of a chance to play with this on one of physical machines. Any MIDIs in particular you'd like to sample? I'll at least do Canyon and of course DOOM E1M1.

Also noteworthy with SurReal:

It can use SoundFont (SF2) banks - a software SoundFont engine in 1998 seems quite novel.

The actual engine is called Reality, and is version 1.5 - WaveSynth W/G provided with the AWE64 sound card series was based on Reality v1.0, and you can load in the sound bank provided with WaveSynth W/G into SurReal.

i've installed every hardware independant softsynth i could get my hands on. how do i get a hold of a copy of this surreal synthsizer? here's what i have concurrently installed on my system right now:

- roland vsc
- yamaha s-yxg100 plus
- conexant/rockwell wavestream (somewhat hardware dependant)
- casio sw-10
- faith websynth d77
- wingroove
- timidity++
- falcosoft midiplayer (bassmidi & vsti)
- microsoft gs wavetable (wdm)
- munt

i like to use vdmsound under win98 to play any of these softsynths in games under a windows dos prompt.
