Hello,

I am unable to see any storage devices connected to my Sil 3114 controller.

Old topic with Sil 3114 working: Silicon Image Sil3112 PCI SATA Controller - looking for old BIOS
Old Topic with Sil 3114 working: Silicon Image PCI SATA Card Issues

System specs:
PIII 1ghz
MS6163 ver 2 Motherboard
512 mb Ram
Voodoo 3 3000 AGP GPU
Sony CD Drive
GoTek with FF Floppy drive

In all my research, it seems that using the Sil 3114 should work with this setup. Common issues are not being able to boot from the drives connected to the Sil 3114, only recognizing a cd drive OR hard disks, and needing to downgrade the BIOS on the controller to work with older OS. My issue is none of these, I cannot see anything connected to the Sil 3114 controller.

I am unable to access the controller BIOS with F4 or ctrl+s - tried multiple keyboards PS2/USB
I am unable to load FreeDOS on LiveCD or Legacy CD
I am unable to access the GoTek floppy disk

I CAN use a windows 98 install CD - but it complains there are no drives to install on

Any help in troubleshooting would be appreciated.

Can't help you with this issue, I only have some experience with the SiI3112, sitting on an EPoX 8RDA3+ and Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe.

It's crap. Nothing but data corruption.

Try getting a Promise controller.

I'm not opposed to getting a promise brand controller, but would like to try getting this setup working first. Would Promise Technology GP 0434-03 Sata 300 TX4 Controller Card be the correct model for 4x sata support?

Thank you for the input.

Yes, a TX4 will work fine.

I realized I had disabled the IDE as part of the troubleshooting - some suggested this prevents the SATA controller from loading the SSDs.

I have FreeDOS live CD working - which should help with making changes.

I have used two of these cards successfully, both time they worked with older Intel chipset AT boards: a TXP4 and a PCChips M-520 (TX and VX). I flashed them to the non RAID (BASE) BIOS, and used this driver which I will attach. They seem to be resource hogs, so anything you aren't using be sure and disable it. And try swapping PCI slots.

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?

Thanks for the help! I'm pretty ignorant with some of this, is the flashing process installing the utility in windows and flashing from the utility? I can try and put an IDE drive in and install windows 98 to flash this, just looking for advice on the process.

I didn't check your links, I assumed that you had found this thread: Re: SIL3114 sata card, need ide firmware.

That was what worked for me.

I am still having issues with the Sil3114 and even bought a Promise TX4. It will not load Bios and not find drives. Anyone have any ideas? Bios settings, hard drive formatting, driver injection in disks needed?
