Or move them to a separate Sticky forum cause nobody cares. I not just saying this for vogons but the remaining forums on the interwebs are commiting the same mistake. Some forums here have like half of the PAGE 1 is sticky threads.
Just nuke them seriously.

Also in some topics like this: "I recently found this hardware, AKA the Dumpster find thread." just remove the ability to reply or comment unless somebody post pictures. Like nobody cares about wasting half pages of scrolling (not reading cos who cares) of replies. The thread is clearly for posts.

I really understand/share the problem...but unsticking them (i guess you mean this by "nuke them seriously") also isn't a solution. Maybe some should have a look which are outdated and therefor not needed to by sticky anymore!?

The second problem (with big picture-threads) is also one of classic forums as they are just vertical - so you don't have a chance to comment or start an interesting discussion, if you prefer such hard rules. This is an unsolvable dilemma.

BTW what annoys me even more is that many to most pictures in older threads are offline (scrolling this thread from post 1 at the moment -> Dual Pentium Pro Build Thread).

kind regards

Oh damn look at this objectively correct message from the Official Internet Content Organisational Correctness Police.

We've been doing it all wrong for decades. What fools we've been!

I also think more then 2-3 sticky threads are kind of annoying sure but only if I don't log in.

Typically I log in and hit new posts, straight away the entire forum is flited to just, well new posts.
Likewise clicking on the "view first unread post" icon jumps me to the last find in the dumpster thread.

Howabout we just go with a big warning on front page, "If too many words make you scared or hurt your brain, go back to TikTok"

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I don't thinks that's a good idea. Sometimes, people post a picture and ask for help with identifying hardware that they've purchased in a lot. By removing the ability to reply with text only, no one would be able to help them.

And as others have said, the "Active Topics" button pretty much negates the need to visit individual subforums.

There is no thumbs-up or like button, so I figure one would like to comment in these big threads.

Yes. Sticky problem is solvable to only look new posts or find something with search. So sticky problem is only the filtration problem, and maybe review those stickis to make them up to date.

But those dumpster/bought new shit forums are nothing without pictires and functional pictures. Unless it is only spotty forum of hearsay.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.
PS. If I upload RAR, it is a 16-bit DOS RAR Version 2.50.

good point, this should be a sticky.... erm, no wait!

there was a time when ref to a faq would do for all forums, its a balance. when stickies are 1/3rd or more of the posts on page 1 its too much

just posts of pics into the silent unresponding void? i really dont mind the occasional conversation appearing, or even just a comment or two. Serious derailments are attended to by mods in all threads anyway

.
closish to the topic of stickies and generally making forum users aware of things, what i dont like is the "this has already been discussed" gatekeeping. its a good way to kill a forum and turn it into a search only archive. doesn't happen much here though, and how could it - vintage stuff and related conversations are bound to recycle many times over 😀

Well we're not gonna turn into instagram or pinterest to suit the weak minded anti-literates, forums are text based, don't like it, don't be on a forum.

Clearly you'll find a lot of text on a text based forum. You keep telling people to go to some gen z/juvenile site. Do participants on this site not have the freedom to express their grievances?

I think perhaps you find this personally offensive seeing how long winded some of your posts are LOL. You really shouldn't. I tend to go on a bit long sometimes.

And wordy people suck too! Let's take a stand against verbosity! Down with the tyrants who want to devour all our time! :)
