Hi all, I've wondered for a while about the X-FI cards and their claims of getting better FPS performance in games, so i'm putting a build together to test. What I think would be best would be a single core cpu as I don't want multiple cores picking up background system processes to run, and more of a difference in freed up CPU resources might be seen. The more they chug the better to see a difference in FPS I guess? The games list that X-FI cards will supposedly help is a short list: Battlefield 2, Prey, Doom 3, Quake 4 and UT2003 I think.. Possibly F.E.A.R, and what i'm thinking are either an AM3 Sempron 140 or a socket 775 Celeron 450. I have mobo's for both so I don't need to buy something just for this one, but i'd need a suitably rubbish PCIe card to again be low enough performance to easily see a difference. Alternatively an Athlon XP setup, probably a 2500+ with maybe an ATI 9800 Pro as a GPU?
I have 5? 6? X-FI cards to test with 2mb or 64mb X-RAM, then Audigy's and curb-find C-Media cards etc all to test against each other - top end cards being an X-FI Elite Pro and Auzentech X-FI Prelude.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated!
