Yeah should I reserve it?

Yep then run HWiNFO and see if it worked. Try boot Windows again and see if it behaves differently.

I reserved irq 5 and windows still crashes, but it crashes earlier now. Before I reserved the irq, it got to the point where the startup sound is played but it got stuck on it. Now it can't make it past the loading cursor. Hwinfo hasn't changed.

I think irq 7 is the sb16 emu, and irq 5 (in dos at least) is the hdd. Windows just ain't booting. I think we can get it working though

You tried different pci slots?
I’m having similar problems with a abit 133 pentium 3 cause the lower pci share irq / he lines with the onboard ide controllers.
For example anything connected to the second from the bottom shares the irq and screws with the controller. But then I put the network card in the bottom slot and it can’t ever get a up address, but works in a higher slot.
Check your mb manual and see if the slot shares anything or find one that gets its own resources.

Switched it to another slot. The sb16 emu driver was installed to irq 3 apparently and all the dos drivers and games worked as per usual while windows still hangs instead of booting up correctly. I'll try to find the Dell Dimension L1000R manual.

This is the dos sb16 emu drivers loaded in dos at bootup.

Here's hwinfo. It hasn't changed despite the card slot switch.

I'm looking into the manual of the pc and seeing if anything useful is in there. Yall get back to me if you have any more ideas.

Okay I just tried booting up to dos with irq 5 reserved. From dos with the sb16 drivers loaded, I booted to windows. It got further than usual but still got stuck on the startup sound. Damn

No option in the BIOS for that as far as I know
Is there another way?

What motherboard is it and what BIOS version are you running?
