Dithering jank on a TNT2

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyo,
I have a Tnt2 m64 in my Dell Dimension 4100. Hella dithering in 3d games. I don't know why.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't anything wrong. Nvidia dithering pattern was always ugly.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

In terms of image quality, the TNT2 and TNT2 M64 are identical; the biggest difference is that the TNT2 is MUCH faster. 16-bit colour pretty much always led to dithering of some kind, it's part of the aesthetic of that era, and different vendors had different implementations that looked better or worse than others. From what I remember, 3dfx was really good, partly because it NEEDED to run in 16-bit colour and couldn't do 32-bit colour at all. Nvidia and S3 were somewhere in the middle, and ATI's dithering looked pretty lousy. I think with some driver revisions of the Rage Pro, it bashed colours down to 15-bit colour (probably for speed) and looked worse than most other graphics solutions that were available.

A Matrox G400 or Radeon of some sort will usually look nicer than anything from Nvidia, especially at 16-bit color depth.

The DirectX 7 - 8 Radeons have error diffusion dithering for 16-bit color that's pretty interesting to see.

Every nVidia card before the Geforce8xxx will dither like this in 16-bit color. Even the beloved "best" GeforceFX cards will look like this

As for the best quality dithering (of cards in this era), there isn't any better than PowerVR cards. The way they work is that they always render in 24-bit color and THEN dither the picture to a 16-bit color buffer, and it's a not-very-weird-at-all 4x4 ordered dither matrix you'd see on S3 and 3dfx but without overdrawn blend grottiness (a common problem for the cards that dither on the texture units). A Kyro can handle Deus Ex. Neon 250 i'm not so sure
