I had one of these back in the day, the software and instrument sound definitions were loaded into the card at boot time and were easily updated for this reason. An interesting thing about the early drivers for these cards is there were two separate files one was the software for the 68000 that ran the show and the second was the instrument parameters, the samples were in ROM (12 bit Alaw samples) buuut the "patches" were located in a file, if you looked at it in a hex editor you could see the patch names and data for each sound. Back in the day (mid 90's) I managed to contact someone at Ensoniq that was apparently associated with this card's software development and asked about this and suggested that maybe they could release an editor for the sounds, but they insisted the sounds were all permanent and could not be changed. The next software release after that combined everything into a monolithic compressed file, not sure if the two things are related but it made experimentation impossible from that point on unless you stayed with the old drivers. Also in that update some of the instrument sounds (like the square wave synth lead) were changed to better match the SCC-1/SC-55 sounds which showed that the sound definitions were in fact contained within the driver file not in ROM on the card.

IIRC the OTTOR2 sound chip is "cousins" with the chip in the Gravis Ultrasound and the Apple2GS. EDIT: and the Taito F3 arcade board.

I Just install Windows 3.11 and the Windows drivers for the sound card, and now no issues driver related in msdos..
Yet, after choosing the correct configuration in games, they are slow... They freeze for a while.. Should this be due to the capacitor known issue with these cards? Should i do a recap or theres something else?

Nice work! Did it address the issues you were having with the card?

I was being stupid.. The drivers only for dos dont work well. I installed 3.11 and install the drivers for that, now it works well in dos. Recap is Just because shes a old card and i saw here in vogons that they should be replaced.

From what I know the Enoniq Soundscapes, bad caps could be a cause of audio issues (low or distorted output). I have a regular Ensoniq Soundscape with very low output volume and I'm planning to do a recap to see if that fixes the issue.

On the other hand, if the caps are perfectly fine then replacement wouldn't be needed.

Would a Terratec Maestro 32/96 be almost as rare as an Elite?

Not even close. In Terratec terms you're in EWS64 XXL territory - an especially rare/expensive version of an already high-end card.

The Maestro 32/96 is a very, very nice card, but much more mass market. They pop up fairly regularly for pretty modest amounts, I bought mine for EUR 50 on a local classified ads site two years ago from a seller who knew what he was selling.
