The board?
Hmm.
Yeah, soaking in white vinegar would help.
A proper ultrasonic bath would be better.

@myne
The DOM does NOT have its own power plug. It's a 44 pin (laptop) IDE (hence the adapter abomination) and if memory serves 44 pin IDE has power from one of the pins (you'll note the melted power wire on the IDE to CF adapter up there goes through the 44 pin section of the PCB)

@rasz_pl
The CF slot is keyed so it can only go in one way

So hey, um since it's already broken, hear me out:

YnDBDKz.jpeg

I looked it over and no other traces are affected. There's no scorching anywhere. Doesn't appear to be any blown transistors. I checked the CF card in a card reader on another machine and it's fine.....
Am I stupid?

Psu power plug pics?

It's either that or you plugged something in backwards

Help as in first step of fixing, but it would absolutely not magically fix anything by itself. If anything ultrasonic bath is bound to rip apart all the barely holding but still conducting corroded connections. Only advisable if OP is ready to desolder half the ISA slots, all SIMM slots, keyboard controller/bios sockets and few buffers.

plugging CF wrong way shorts 5V to ground - this would explain burned track. My GF once managed to plug MOLEX power backwards to HDD, nothing is keyed if you are motivated enough 😀

I think you're being a bit dramatic with the predictions there. It's almost all throughhole and it mostly looks like the Isa slots are affected.

True about the keying though.

Yes corrosion and lots of it. In the ISA slots, in the VIA's and on many "pull-up ?" resistors.
And rasz_pl is correct ! Ultra-sonic on a old motherboard is a bad idea.
And I have to add this: Near 20 super close up 12Mp (4kx3k) pictures at beginning did not really help us that much.
A few good pictures of: the whole controller, the motherboard and cable + DOM would have been enough (and much better than those bits and pieces pictures)... just saying. We have done more with less 🤣.

Did that with a 3.5" floppy drive once, was not watching carefully and missed and burned the drive and almost got the psu too. One them cheap drives with no plastic guard, just 4 pins sticking out 🙁

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun
