Hello everyone, I was coming here today to ask for help with my 3dfx Voodoo 5. My Voodoo 5 had worked flawlessly for awhile, but yesterday when I was playing Jedi Knight 2, it had randomly froze up with artifacts on the screen and then crashed. When I turned the computer back on, it had artifacts all over the screen and it didn't seem to want to go away.

I had looked around the Memory modules on the card and tried to clear up any dust or hair and it didn't do anything. I put in my Voodoo 3 and it worked just fine. I tried my Voodoo 5 about a dozen times afterwards and strangely there was one time that it displayed normally, but afterwards it just stopped working again.

Could somebody give me any suggestions to what it could be? I'm just assuming that the memory on the card went bad, but please let me know.

If the memory went bad, I don't think it would be intermittently bad? More likely a solder joint that has become sus, and one of the times you put it in, you flexed the board just right to make it work. If you know anyone that's an SMD solder king, maybe you could have them do a reflow on it and see if it works? Seems broken badly enough that a little experimentation can't hurt. Though, I'd try the card in another system first before assuming it's at fault.
