I have a external Parallel port Zip100 drive i want to get working in dos.
I have tryed the drivers below...

"Autorun" locks up and won't do anything. I have tryed running EACH .SYS in the archive files one at a time in my config to set it up manually... (none work)

"Guest" says "looking for a drive letter for you iomega drive"... and never does. I presume that's cos a driver it needs isn't loaded.

http://vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=1 … menustate=58,55 (as below)
I have try this... Iomega Parallel Zip100 drive driver for DOS?

I have made sure the printer port is all enabled etc in the BIOS / DOS.

More things i have noticed....

"Iomega ZIP DOS drivers" iodrv-dos-x86-10.rar is the same file as in here....
"Iomega Driver files for *external* USB/SCSI/Parallel ZIp Drives - DOS 1.0, W95+NT4 v3.06, W98+ME+W2k/XP v4.03" zipdrivers.rar

"Iomega DOS Tools v5.51" dos_551.exe Is for the JAZ SCSI version... (Not ZIP drives)

Small update. Drive works in win 98 SE with the 98 driver in here.... "Iomega Driver files for *external* USB/SCSI/Parallel ZIp Drives - DOS 1.0, W95+NT4 v3.06, W98+ME+W2k/XP v4.03" But the DOS driver in there refuses to work / install.

Thanks,
T.

GuestDOS does not need a driver to be loaded - I remember using my LPT ZIP drive at my friends PCs without having to edit config.sys/autoexec.bat, I just ran the binary from a floppy and a new drive letter appeared.

Ah... Thanks for the reply. I will try that idea from a floppy instead.

Well...the PalmSys driver is much smaller than the Guest driver. I was unable to find it on the web--broken link. 🙁 If you want, I can look for it on my computer and, if found, attach it here. Do you want it?

FYI PalmZip

AUG2024: Klause used to have a web page, but no longer. A copy of the web page is at https://web.archive.org/web/20231021040756/ht … hl/palmzipe.htm .

There's still an email link to order the full version.

Demo version can still be downloaded from https://www.minuszerodegrees.net/software/palmdemo.zip

weedeewee: I just checked your web site. PalmZip seems to be incompatible with newer Parallel Zip drives. I don't know if the drives I used to have were P or P2 but did notice that the driver only works sometimes: half the time, access to the drive after loading the driver only sometimes works. Would that happen on P2?

BTW, I like this driver for its low memory footprint and want it to work on my computers.

BTW, all my Parallel Zip100 drives are broken, and I believe it's my fault: I pressed the eject button too firmly on one and used the wrong power supply on the other. My mother bought me a replacement for one but couldn't do it for the other, as didn't have the money at hand for the other. I'm wondering if I should install an IDE one that's there or buy another Parallel one. I believe I can do it with guidance, and it should be faster, but a Parallel one nay be easier. If install the IDE one, I need instructions on how to do it.

Sorry, can't really help you further. also It's not my website 😀
I never really liked zip drives. They serve their purpose but to keep using them all the time, no thanks.
I once bought a zip 100 plus, lpt or scsi, and that one got lost somehow 🙁
In the meantime I have a collection of over 10 zip drives, some 100, some 250, most lpt, some ide, one or two scsi 😒
I like the scsi ones a little bit more. but I have no idea how many of those I have atm are working.

The IDE zip drives are, for all I recall, mostly like any ide device, master or slave.
I think, dependent on the computer bios you can omit loading the guest driver to assign the zip a drive letter but I'm not sure of that.

A broken button you could likely fix. Use of the wrong power supply depends on if you used one with a higher voltage, (most likely), in which case, I'm assuming, the drive will be 'toast'.
Opening the plastic of the zip drive can be a bit tricky but it's possible without breaking too much so you can still close it afterwards 😁

I think the broken-button ones (I forgot to mention that I broke other Zip100 drives that way before 🙁 ) are beyond repair and that you're right about the bad-connection one. 🙁 Can you point me to a web site that explains how to connect IDE drives, please? I prefer text over video. BTW, I'm sorry about calling the linked site yours. Silly mistake!

The IDE zip drives are just like attaching a cdrom or harddrive. there is nothing more to know or read about connecting them aside from the master/slave part which is also present on cdroms & harddrives.

Also, lets not take this thread too far off. Start your own topic if you must or do some more googling by yourself.
