Any suggestions for decent (but not expensive) replacement 50mm x 50mm x 15mm (or can be 20mm) bearing fans for these heatsinks ? All the originals were 50mm x50mm but died..
They need be 2 pin power since none of the P.Pro boards seem to have "tach" even if 3 pin headers....
or can I use 3 pin tach type and ignore the tach lead ? Yes I should know this but currently having some brain cramp. Thanks !

Iirc the reason 3 pin fans have the alignment tab where they do is because they're still compatible with 2 pin.

If you don't care about "proper" any fan will do. The breeze from a mosquito flapping would do.

If you do care about proper, s370 and s462 hsfs will fit, but you'll have to pull the og heatsink. I hear freezing makes the glue brittle enough to twist off but check.

🤣 I think they need more than a "a mosquito flapping" 😀 The P.Pro 200-512 is 43 watt max power draw and 38 watt TDP, the K6-2 450 is 19 watt max power draw or about 15 TDP.....
so the fan is a little important but as you said probably any good 50mmx50mm fan might work.

Oh. PPro. Missed that.
Check dimensions of hsf. I'm probably wrong about 370/462.
I'd just duct tape a 60-80mm on 5v pointing vaguely at it.
That era were very temp tolerant. My celeries ran for several mins at full load without a hsf before crashing at reportedly around 120c

But that's me.

Thanks. Might just order some fans from china but was hoping for someone to point me to a link of 50mm they had good luck with. Original Soc 8 heatsinks are very rare today, if someone can point me some good fans for these will happily give one away in the "Old hardware giveaway thread".

Old fans have always given me a headache, because most of them do not have a modern equivalent due to their specific shape, installation or appearance.

So if the original worn fans have bearings and are just noisy, whirring and vibrating, I fix them by simply replacing the bearings, which can be pulled out of good fans. Fans with sleeve bearings can also be fixed by wrapping the fan shaft with aluminum foil, but this is more of a temporary solution, especially if done incorrectly. Fan vibration is another issue that can be easily fixed by gluing a counterweight in a right spot, for that I usually use a flattened piece of a soldering wire, wrapped in a shrink tube for insulation just in case it decides to fall off.

Three of the original fans were sleeve and were too worn out to fix. Mouser has some about same RPM and size by company called "Samesky", never heard of them, originals were labeled Foxcon..

Thanks ! Did not know until you said so. I ordered a few of their "50 mm square x 15 mm, 12 Vdc, omniCOOL, 3000 RPM" without PWM. Should work just fine on those heatsinks.

Thanks for the offer! I ordered some CUI and some Sunon and they just arrived. Think the Sunon will work better as they have better CFM at a bit lower RPM, 10cfm @ 3000.
Now just need to find those special long fine thread screws that originally came with those HS, should have been in same baggy with them but no 🙁
Once I get that fixed will offer up one of those screw on type Soc 8 to "giveaway" topic if interested, know you have lots P.Pro stuff but not sure if you have one of these 😀

I'll have to check my stash. I know I have a couple of the one on the far left, except green. I don't think I have those screw type ones though.

50mm fans are relatively rare, I'm interested to see how it turns out.

I have used AM2 coolers, just replace retention clip or fabricate from stainless steel wire. Fans are nice and silent, usually put them to work at 7 volts.

Many 3Dfx and Pentium III-S stuff.

Never found original screws and having issues finding the right screws. Ordered a multi pack of 1.5 to 3mm diameter in varies lengths but they are wrong thread.
Tinkering I found is some VGA/Serial/etc port hex screws are same thread but not long enough for full fan. Since I got 6 fans and 4 heatsinks decided to dremal cut one fan to use those.
Might have some luck on next batch of screws but if not at least know have some alternative...
