Grabbed some Turtle power

- Turtle Beach Montego II (Aureal Vortex 2 AU8830 Rev B0AAAB)
- Turtle Beach HOMAC 4MB (Rockwell/Kurzweil)

What’s interesting is I think this is the last Vortex 2 chipset revision that was made. This revision (B0) had internal data bus timing changes which provided slightly more FPS in some games. I think the SQ2500 uses the same chip. All other Montego II’s I’ve seen have Rev A2. I’m not a Vortex specialist so correct me if I’m wrong 😉

You are correct. The SQ2500 normally has either an A2 or B0, but finding a B0 on any other Vortex2 is extremely rare in my experience. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a B0 on anything but an SQ2500 (or it's clones), honestly. In pictures or in person.

That is quite a find... to be able to combine it with the HOMAC daughterboard is super cool too. Take care of those! 😁

Wow didn't know it was that rare. I'm taking no chances; it's going into a board that's fully recapped. Grabbed some better pictures. Seems to be in very good condition.

Ordered a x800gto, got this. Seller contacts me saying that he accidentally sent me a camera that was for another buyer. Then he said he managed to get the package replaced with the correct one. I didn't believe him so I filmed the unboxing. There's no way to get a package swapped with another after the package is handed over to the delivery company. Anyways, I wanted to give it a try since it's insured. And in fact I received the camera, not the GPU, so he lied and he didn't swap the package. Now he's saying that's not his camera but my camera and I am lying. Says it's impossible that it's his camera since he still has the camera. Either he has an identical camera or he took photos of the cameras before shipping it to me. 25€ heist. A true criminal mastermind.

Funny enough this also just happened to me with that Rare 3200+ Athlon XP. seller sent me something totally different from the photos and description.

I put in a return order, but he hasn't responded to any communication. It's really saddening when it happens, especially on something your really looking forward too.

Ugh ! Sounds a bit dishonest since they had stated: accidentally sent me a camera that was for another buyer.
Have not had anything that bad happen on EBay yet but there were two oddities in last few years:
Ordered/payed for 2 items and received just one, after I politely asked if the other item was being shipped separate they said they would check their inventory. A few days later they said ok am shipping the other. (Note these were $5 items 🤣)
ordered item and paid (page said free shipping) and when arrived shipper said I owed $4 on shipping, still waiting to see if that gets corrected.....not too worried if not but still 🙁

Also got a 4CoreDual-Sata2 (in a 4CoreDual-VSTA box). This card comes from the same lot as the three Kyro.
Paid ~40€ for the three Kyros + the Asrock motherboard.
And 7€ (!!) for the 9700 Pro (plus two lowend s775 + AM2 MB)

Only the asrock board and one of the Kyro II 4800 are tested. Fingers crossed for the rest.

Good deal ! I like Asrock boards, they are as good as Asus, Giga or MSI imho.

I like the weirdness of Asrock from this era.
With "upgradable" cards, cards with AGP+PCIE. Cards with unusual memory support.
It's very "niche" but generally also very clever.
Unlike today's hardware.

I have a dual AGP/PCIe board similar to this. It's very fun and I use it often for testing. One caveat to be aware of is that it isn't a panacea. I believe that all of these types of combo boards are strictly PCIe 1.0. I've also experienced problems where they will simply refuse to work with some PCIe cards. This is more likely to happen with never cards, but it's something to be aware of. If a card doesn't work, be sure to verify it in another system before assuming the worst.

I think that they are AGP 4X and not 8X as well, but I'm not certain.

That's exactly the kind of experience i have with my 939Dual-sata2. I bought it for testing purposes. But it refuses to work with some cards. The PCIE/AGP/PCI combo is super handy, but i always double check with another motherboard to be 100% sure.

For the 4CoreDual-sata2... i will see.
I already used one (this is not my first one)
But it stopped working suddenly... to work again one year later. I hope this one will be more stable.

and i got this in the mail this morning. Not hardware... but still retro anyway.

Part of my items arrived.

Sad news: V3 2000 PCI and Geforce 4 Ti 4400 are dead
Good news: Soyo 5EHM v1.2, the 1MB cache version, is working, despite having soot on the AT connector. Yay!

Left to arrive: ABIT AB-TX5

Have you tried reflashing the BIOS on the v3 2000?

Won't even show up in the BIOS device listing. It only POST'd once with severe artefacting then never again.

Nice!

I've been experimenting with basically this exact combo (except using a NEC MIDI card). It's rapidly becoming one of my favorite ISA sound cards. 😁

My two video cards arrived. Most happy with the GTX 960 SC, it works perfect, not a trace of dust/etc on the fan and had to remove the plastic film. just like new !
Have not tested the GTX 750-TI SC yet and still waiting for a sound card to arrive...

added: also just bought a Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L + Q9650 + 4GB ram combo for ~$50. Everyone in US wants near that just for a used bare board so figured it a better deal (they claim it was tested)...
One thing about newer soc 775 boards is that most are micro ATX and missing functions that are more valuable for anyone wanting to run XP, like floppy port, ps2 ports, 4 dimm sockets, ide ports. etc.
This Giga board be similar to my late model (near full ATX) Asrock with all those things....

Cool, I'll have to try that bios on my BXB847 'coz it's a jerk about supporting PIII

Nice looking board (other than the dual PSU thing <has always disturbed me when an AT board has a ATX PSU connector.. just not right 🤣>) .
Hope you have good luck with it !
