we need to support this

Story
Does your ISA sound card need more sample memory? Do you want to max out your 386 without paying through the roof for half degraded and scarce original memory modules? How about a brand new set with gold plated contacts instead?

Through recently developed buisness contacts I've got access to large stocks of new old stock FPM DRAM chips. The only caveat is I have to order at least 1000 to make it cost effective, hence I need a bit of help.

I tried looking for that topic a few days ago but couldn't find it... Didn't think that would be the name of a RAM kickstarter.

50ns DRAM would be better. Many of us experiment with clocks above 42.5Mhz...

DRAM (2x = 4MB): HYB5117400BJ-50
Parity bit: HYB514100BJ-50

Getting pretty close to meeting it’s pledge goal now.

I’m game for a few sticks just to ensure I have some spare usable, known good RAM for my few 386 boxes.

Not a fan of Gold Plated 30 pin SIMMS for anything.. Have box full of good working 30pin and all are tinned, those that do not work proper in many boards are my gold plated.....
WHy is it every 30pin startup wants to use gold plating ?
Nearly all original 72pin SIMMS were also tin plate...

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

It's technically zinc plating, iirc. Not tin.

Tin has issues with insertion coctacts, and proximity to dissimilar metals.

What's wrong with gold plating?
Is there any bad things gold plating is to blame for?

I've noted that in some envirionments, gold fingers develop a 'film' on them. It's not really patina per-se, it seems more like an organic film of some kind.

From way back when, when I did in home service calls, I noted it happening more often in homes with dogs or lots of small kids. I believe it may be a reaction between volatized oils, oxygen, and catalyzed by the copper in the gold finger plating.

Cleaning the edges/fingers with a nonabrasive white vinyl eraser did *wonders* on such calls.

I dont think zinc catalyzes reactions the same way copper does, as I've never seen the film on zinc plated fingers.

This video is not in english, but shows the phenomenon in question (and SURPRISE, young child in background audio...). The fingers have a notable brown gunk on them, which gets removed from liberal use of a white vinyl eraser.
