Hi,
I'm an absolute noob with hardware design, but I found an old P2b schematic in some ancient fabmaster format that only boardview opens.

With some basic trickery I think I've extracted the slot1 into a usable format.
However... the original was in inches.

It looks right to me.

If it is, I'll attempt to extract the rest agp/pci/isa/etc into usable footprints.

Edit. Did the chipset too.
Edit. Symbol looking acceptable.

It's surprisingly not as hard as I thought - assuming it's correct. Fiddly, but not hard hard.

so its a pcb view 🙁

Fabmaster Landrex is an ascii format, are you taking coordinates straight from .DAT/.ASC files or looking at boardview/openboardviewer and redrawing by eye?

Coords from asc.
Looked for a converter but couldn't find.

I probably could write a script, but it's easy enough albeit fiddly to dump into spreadsheet and get the appropriate kicad line.

Why excited? Since it has nets I am somewhat hoping I can slowly recreate it into something a pro can do the layout for.

Diagrams are much easier to reason about than boardviews and P2B is one of my fav boards 😀
There is a pdf someone uploaded as 'P3BF diagram' consisting of badly scanned ancient paper schematic sheets with various titles like "Project: BX98", "Project: P2B98-LS" etc. I think Asus was mixing and matching already designed subsystems when making P3BF https://vinafix.com/threads/shematic-boardvie … -desktop.19882/ Would love to get my hands on original .sch files or a way of clearing bad scans with AI 😀

They all copy paste parts of old designs.
No need to redo something that meets requirements.
How many ways can you draw a vrm, pci layout or isa?
Not many. Why bother reinventing the wheel?

I was playing around cleaning asus diagram checking how hard would it be to transfer it to kicad. Oh man Asus is annoying with Slot1 pin numbering. I dont know how to keep Asus sequential slot numbers and also CPU Axxx/Bxxx from the schematic 😐

The attachment asus p3bf-0000.png is no longer available
The attachment p3bf diag.png is no longer available

They do this non canonical numbering on all slots.

Your symbols look wonky, pins are inside out etc 😀. I fixed Slot1 one according to Intel reference diagrams, Intel broke it in two to more easily fit in diagram sheets.

Very nice!

Socket 8 and socket 370 could be added as they are similar techs.

So what’s the plan? To make footprints and tools that future people can use to make new pentium II boards?

Do you plan to make a full mobo?

Just playing around with diagrams, nothing serious. Maybe ill do full P2B diagram and PCB reconstruction if I run out of games to play 😀

Heh yeah. I did notice that and I've fixed it.
It was me assuming that round numbers were fine.

I didn't think there was much real interest, but I've been working on a full Intel reference schematic.

It's a good way to learn kicad.

I might relook at the p2b when it's done.
You know how it is. You learn something, find a show stopper, move on, figure out that you were wrong about the show stopper.

I think I'm doing OK for a total noob.

If you have the interest to do something new to begin with, you should keep that...

There's interest if it does more than what is possible on existing boards, or is a reproduction of an existing board that's hard to find.

color me interested 😀

Filename Slot1v2.zip
pad/hole locations spot on, pin holes dimension spot on.
-pad dimensions way to big
-nothing aligned to grid
-mechanical support holes as pads
-mechanical support holes way too small
-mechanical support holes lack extra clearances
reference SC242 Connector Design Guidelines https://peertje.daanberg.net/drivers/intel/do … ts/24339702.PDF

did you rework it since posting? I can fix it. I think this should be it. Both numbering conventions, and one with no radiator support holes. Clearances around mounting holes might need some tweaking.

Give me a bit and I'll upload the progress.

The bulk of the schematic is done.
I'm literally copying the Intel reference design.

I can see a few improvements I'd make.
Like swapping to more modern mosfets that run on 12v and using the 133 clock circuit.

But it's all learning.

Um...
Kinda? I dunno. It's theoretically possible to make a full PPro to Tualatin compatible design. Which is a wildly cool range for retro

I saw things like the tiny llama and thought I'd have a crack at it.

Here.

It's not complete. But you can see it;'s not far

Thanks for sharing, will probably find these useful when I get around to the "Great P2B defuckulation project", have a small pile of P2B to fix, only expect to get 2 out of it, since some were already missing components in the scrap lot I got years ago.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Oh, there are p2b boardviews out and about.
That is not a p2b. I started out in that but couldn't find the component values until later.
That schematic is a recreation of the Intel reference schematic.

The trick is to look in the bom for the component values. It's not in the asc files.
