Hello. I have IBM 5170 and i want to add 1.44mb floppy. I used IBM setp disk for set up news floppy but there is only 720k, so i tryed gsetup, it has option for 1.44mb but computer cant read any disks, even if drive trying to read then. I think my motherboard has old bios. Can i add to my computer second controller just to use floopy? So in ibm controler i connect hdd and 5.25 flopoy and second controller just 3.5", will it work?

Hi there, I would recommend to replace the IBM AT BIOS by a QuadTel BIOS.
It is fairly modern, has password feature, a Setup Utility, Type 47 HDD support etc.

I think IBM never wrote good software, with the exception of Team OS/2.
The original AT BIOS even has a lock implemented to hang the computer if it exceeds 8 MHz (yes, there's a developer's BIOS without it, but still).

Personally, I'm very happy with that BIOS. I'm using it in PCem v17 for testing purposes.

Edit: PC-DOS 3.30 was a lucky creation, too. It had a cute mascot, fine manual and was ahead of MS-DOS 3.30.
