hello !

i recently rechived a Soltek SL-75KAV along with a original sound blaster 16 (ct2290). the whole reason i got the soltek motherboard was for the ISA slot to put the sound blaster card in (had a ABit AB-KV7 in my pc before)

i did know that it had som bulging caps but wanted to try to see if there was life in it and i powers up, fans spins, hdd spins up, but no booting, no beeping from the speaker connected to the motherboard and no light when i press the num lock on the keyboard.

the bulging caps is on the power rail side of the board and was planing on soldering on new ones.

my question is, is there anyting else i should test out and change on the board to ressurect it og could i just be the faulty caps that makes it not booting ?

i double checked the dip switches and the jumpers, tried with different hardware and no luck making it boot.

best regards
betaxe

With VRM caps in that condition, there is no point in trying anything else without replacing them first.

Dafuq yes replace all of them, it usually works after this.
And you would have to check some voltage measurements to check the no other elements are faulty.

yeah i know, was just impatient and wanted to see if it worked, and it didn't.

i have ordered new caps for the board, what else should i check and what should i take measurements of ?

Bulging capacitor means that they are dead long time ago.. damaged capactiors make mosfet and inductors work very hard and generate lot more heat. Unstable power cause memory errors, weird behavior, random crashes, can´t use all memory slots.

Until replace capacitors, you can´t measure anything.. voltages are floating

Before first power on, always check for shorts on AT(X) power lines.

I have a Soyo 370 board that had so many puffy caps on it when I got it that I was afraid to try and power it on! So I took a chance and replaced the caps, and luckily it worked.

so ive tried to change the bad caps and no luck. think the next thing is to try and replace the tantalum caps onboard.

found the post here on the same board, ill try all the things from that and see if that helps:
